23 Jump Street Release Date, Storyline, Plot, and More

We all saw Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill go undercover as amateur buddy cops in 21 Jump Street and its sequel, 22 Jump Street, and we loved them. Eight years later, we are still asking the same questions. Will there be 23 Jump Street?

The makers of 23 Jump Street have not yet disclosed when the movie will be made available to the public. In the meantime, the date of September 22nd, 2022 has been set as the beginning of filming and can no longer be changed.

At this time, we can reasonably conclude that the debut of 23 Jump Street will take place in the year 2023. The director of the film is Qmars Mootab, while Michael Bacall is the one who authored the script.

23 Jump Street Storyline

23 Jump Street Storyline

21 Jump Street and its sequel are adaptations of the 1987 TV drama series of the same name, the first series that marked the beginning of Johnny Depp’s acting career. 21 Jump Street introduced us to two friends, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum), who became police officers after high school and then returned undercover to bust a drug ring. Contrary to the TV series, where the pro undercover cops took their jobs seriously, Schmidt and Jenko are completely ridiculous and amateur.

On 22 Jump Street, Schmidt and Jenko move up to college, where they go undercover to investigate the supplier of a synthetic drug called WHYPHY, which killed a student on campus. Their friendship is tested when Jenko becomes buddies with some jocks on the football team who dislike Schmidt, and Schmidt gets in bed with a girl named Maya (Amber Stevens West) by faking an interest in slam poetry. As Jenko realizes one of the jocks is part of the drug ring, and Schmidt discovers Maya is the daughter of his boss, Captain Dickson( Ice Cube), the two overgrown ‘babymen’ have to learn to behave like adults in order to handle the situations and complete their mission.

Following their undercover adventure at college, 23 Jump Street tracks another comedic adventure of police officers Morton Schmidt and Greg Jenko as they go undercover at an office building in order to find the con artist who’s been smuggling illegal whiskey. Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube will reprise their roles as Schmidt, Jenko, and Captain Dickson, respectively.

After Tatum previously expressed his respect for his co-star, Brad, for his humorous role in The Lost City (a romcom), the Bullet Train actor was reportedly cast as Dr. Johnnie Walker. There have been no confirmations from any of these actors, but it’s possible that the news is true. After all, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have never completely shut down the chances of a threequel.

Apparently, 23 Jump Street is already in production under Columbia Pictures. Michael Bacall, who was also involved in the previous films, is the writer of the threequel. The film is produced by Fast & Furious producer, Neal H. Mortiz, and its original scores will be composed by Mark Mothersbaugh, who also handled the music for the previous films.

22 Jump Street’s mid-credit scene is the reason 23 Jump Street production is shady

During the end credits of 22 Jump Street, the producers threw shade at Hollywood’s tendency to milk a hit film for all it’s worth by releasing an excessive number of sequels, prequels, and spin-offs. As a serious joke, they added a montage of 22 fictional sequels, in which we see Schmidt and Jenko in new settings and ridiculous costumes; a video game, an animated series, and a toy line. Now, years after doing that, how do they admit they are making a threequel?

Is 23 Jump Street happening or not?

Between 2014 and 2016, 23 Jump Street was allegedly in development, with its creators, Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, having a Men in a Black crossover in mind. Although the public was excited to see where that would go, the news eventually faded into silence when the crossover proved too hard to pull off. The producers also felt the threequel went against the message they passed across at the end of 22 Jump Street (in other words, they felt like bloody hypocrites).

Later in July 2021, co-writer and co-director of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Rodney Rothman revealed that he had been hired to work on the next film, 24 Jump Street, instead of 23 Jump Street. In an interview, Roth explained, “It’s taken us so long to put together we decided to skip past 23 Jump Street and start up the plot one movie later.”

24 Jump Street may or may not be a sequel salvaged from the plans of a female-driven spin-off, ‘Jump Street: For Her Pleasure’, which was previously announced at one point in this mess. If it is, then we might see Tiffany Haddish lead this sequel as an undercover high school teacher, with Zendaya in a supporting role. Nothing has been certain since the creators of 21 Jump Street made that self-righteous and premature joke eight years ago.

Recently, on September 2, 2022, this popped up on our radar. A tweet from film director, Qmars Mootab, stating he is apparently to direct a long overdue 23 Jump Street. This announcement seems like the most legit we’ve seen in years (note that legit is very relative in this case)
