Barbarians Season 2 Expected Plot

Barbarians Season 2 Expected Plot

Barbarians season 2 will be based on historical events, as was the first. Although the show’s creators haven’t revealed what’s next for Arminius, Thusnelda, and Folkwin, history suggests that another terrible battle is on the way.

In 16 AD, Roman General Germanicus returned with even more troops to avenge the legions that had died. Dissimilar the Battle of Teutoburg Forest, the Battle of Idistaviso was a huge accomplishment for the Romans, so if the show vacations true to antiquity, this second series could spell distress for our heroes.

The story takes place in the latter part of AD 9 during the Roman occupation of Magna Germania (the area between the Rhine and the Elbe rivers). The Romans had occupied the area for twenty years, and the Germanic tribes were oppressed by the empire’s high taxes and tribute demands. Attempts to form a unified Germanic resistance are hampered by tribal chieftain infighting and the selfish desires of certain tribesmen for peace with Rome.

Arminius, an eques in the Roman Imperial army, is a member of the Germanic Cherusci tribe who was given away as a child as a hostage to Rome by his father Segimer to ensure peace between his tribe and Rome. He returns to Germany to assist Publius Quinctilius Varus (his foster father) in keeping the region in order.

After witnessing the atrocities committed by Roman soldiers against his former people, he becomes the new chieftain of the Cherusci tribe and sparks a rebellion by finally uniting the tribes with the assistance of Thusnelda (daughter of Segestes) and Folkwin Wolfspeer, his two childhood best friends. These events culminate on September 11, 9 A.D. in a massive ambush of three Roman legions (some 15,000 men) at the Battle of Actium.

the Teutoburg Forest, where the Germanic people triumph. Varus commits suicide in the face of humiliating defeat and the treason of his adopted son.

Flavus, like his older brother, was kidnapped by the Romans as a child. He remained loyal to his Roman captors, however, and even served in the Roman army under Germanicus.

Also, we expect Folkwin’s oath with the gods, as well as the revelation that Thusnelda is pregnant with Folkwin’s child, to cause problems for our three main characters, especially since she intends to rule alongside Arminius!
