The specific date has not yet been announced, although it was confirmed that the release would be in 2022. Freeform says that this was an easy decision- Freeform President Tara Duncan said, “It’s the biggest series debut in Freeform’s history and the audience response has been overwhelmingly positive. (Executive producers) Jessica, Michelle and (showrunner) Tia did a phenomenal job telling an addictive story tapping into the cultural zeitgeist. I’m excited to see where they take the series next.”

Set over three summers in the 90s, the show is about Kate, the popular, golden girl who goes missing, and Jeanette, your typical studious kid who wants to be popular. Jeanette is suspected of Kate’s abduction.
Season 1 had a total of ten episodes, and they alternated between the point of view of Kate And Jeanette.
Cruel Summer Season 2 Plot
Seeing where the first season left off, a lot of dimensions open up. It makes you wonder if Jeanette is suffering from a mental illness and whether or not she’ll ever feel remorse for leaving Kate to rot in a basement. Will Kate ever know? Then we have the whole situation of Kate’s relationship with Mallory’s future.
There will be old characters reentering with different goals and there are chances that Kate was not Harris’s sole victim.

Most reviews say yes. Rotten Tomatoes has a 93% approval rating and an average rating of 7.8/10. The website’s critical consensus says, “Though it may have too much going on, Cruel Summer’s delicious twists and delightful turns from its young stars are never less than entertaining.”
Metacritic shows a 75/100 score and indicates “generally favorable reviews.”
Saloni Gajjar of The A.V. Club gave the series a B and wrote, “Cruel Summer manages to overcome its convoluted storytelling because it finds interesting, grounded ways to explore the impact of society’s expectations of these young girls, and how their town and own families contribute to the pressure they face.”
