  • Bell Cranel, voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka; Bryson Baugus: Bell Cranel is a novice solo explorer and Hestia Familia member. His first-person account and a third-person viewpoint frequently alternate in the light novel’s chapter portions. He carries a pair of daggers and has white hair and red eyes. Bell is the sole possessor of the uncommon skill known as Liaris Freese, which accelerates his growth and development based on the stability and strength of his feelings while also piquing the interest of those who are interested in the secret behind it. This is due to the fact that Bell quickly advanced from level 1 to level 2, then to level 3, and finally to level 4 in the course of just a few months. He acquired the skill “Argonaut” when he reached level 2. Due to his desire to become a hero, this talent enables him to significantly strengthen the attacks he makes in life-or-death situations. Because he doesn’t believe he is strong enough to tell Ais he loves her, he strives to match her strength. This causes him to automatically flee every time he sees her, at least until they become friends. His grandpa, who is eventually revealed to be the god Zeus himself, told him legends about how he would one day meet a lady by chance and become a hero.
  • Hestia, voiced by Inori Minase; Luci Christian: Bell’s resident deity, Hestia, is in charge of overseeing Bell’s growth as an explorer. She is envious of Bell’s involvement in the relationships of other girls, particularly Ais, but she still loves him, is committed to protecting him, and supports his development despite realizing that he only sees her as family. She and Bell share a room beneath a derelict church, and she works as a part-time Guild clerk as well as at a few foods stands to help Bell pay for their daily living expenses. Once they have defeated the Apollon Familia in the War Game and taken their assets, they will move into the former palace of the Apollon Familia. She keeps Bell’s unusual talent a secret from everyone else, even Bell, out of concern for what may happen if the world learned about it. After Bell asks about it, she shares it with the other Familia members.
  • Ais Wallenstein, voiced by Saori Ōnishi; Shelley Calene-Black: The Loki Familia’s Ais Wallenstein is a stunning and formidable swordswoman. She is known as the Sword Princess and is a level 5 adventurer who has rejected over a thousand suitors and destroyed over a thousand monsters. After confronting Monster Rex alone on floor 37, she finally reached level 6, becoming the fourth adventurer in Loki’s Familia to reach that level, after Finn, Riveria, and Gareth. She has golden eyes and blonde hair. She first encounters Bell in the Dungeon as she fends off a Minotaur that had gotten away from her party and fled to the higher levels. She normally presents as calm and dispassionate, although she knows Bell and has stood up for him when his peers have made fun of his incompetence during the Minotaur incident. Ais seems to have grown interested in Bell after speaking to him in-depth, assisting in his training while also showing interest in how rapidly he improves. She can engage in three-dimensional combat by using wind magic. The main character in the side-story series Sword Oratoria is named Ais, and it focuses on her personal experiences as well as events from the main series from her point of view while also revealing a little bit of her backstory.

The imaginary city of Orario is the setting for the narrative. The city is home to some gods who, in search of adventure, decided to curtail their heavenly abilities in order to share in the struggles of humans who live in the mortal world. Each god has an army of mercenaries and support staff, known as a Familia, drawn from the populace of the city.

Exploring the Dungeon, a labyrinth beneath the city is what these organizations do most often in order to fight monsters and collect the crystal shards they drop when they are killed. These shards can be directly exchanged for the world’s money, but they are also utilized to create magic goods and other treasures.

The strength of an adventurer is measured by their level and a variety of ability scores, as is customary in role-playing games. An adventurer can raise their level and ability scores, as well as acquire unique abilities known as talents, by taking out increasingly difficult creatures.
The narrative centers on Bell Cranel, a 14-year-old novice explorer and the only representative of the Hestia Familia.

After a fortunate encounter in which she saves his life from a formidable monster, he makes a commitment to become as strong as Ais Wallenstein, a well-known and formidable swordswoman of the Loki Familia.

While Bell is romantically attracted to Ais, several other girls, both deities and mortals, share this devotion, most notably Hestia.
