David Farrier and Paul Horan write the documentary. Razor Films and Fumes are the production companies along with Carthew Neal, Mark McNeil, and David Farrier as executive producers.
The first season of the series has eight episodes in total, with a running time of around 50 minutes each. The eight episodes show the travel experience shared by David Farrier. Dark Tourist Plot Summary
The first destination of David Ferrier is Medellin, where he investigates and knows the legacy of Pablo Escobar. Later he visits La Catedral with Escobar’s former hit man Popeye. Then he explores Mexican City, where he meets the followers of Santa Muerte where he witnessed an exorcism. He then starts his trip to Tomioka, where he expects higher radiation. So he travels to Japan at Hiroshima Island. He joins the dark tourist Natalie in Milwaukee with whom he takes a tour around the city. In Kazakhstan, David joins dark tourist Andy, and together they visit the city of Kurchatov, They visit the primary testing site for the Soviet Union’s nuclear weaponry, Semipalatinsk Test Site.
He also travels from Kazakhstan to Baikonur, home of the Soviet’s space program. He then visits the Turkmen capital Ashgabat. Furthermore, he also attends the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. Not only that, but he also takes part in the world’s biggest World War II re-enactment. After that adventure, he travels to England and visits a controversial museum that includes an exhibit dedicated to Fred & Rose West and a Nazi-era lampshade supposedly made from human skin.
He then flies to Indonesia and meets a Toraja man who has been ‘resting’ for two years and also participates in the Ma’nene funeral rite. In Ouidah, Benin, he learns more about Voodoo and performs a ritual rite for god Thorn. Later in Johannesburg, he investigates Alexandra township to see just how dangerous such townships In South Africa he meets a small group of Afrikaner nationalists before moving further north to Randfontein and meeting the Suidlander survivalists. After exploring these places, he returns to the USA and arrives in Los Angeles. Where he knows about the Manson family murders and also meets a friend of Manson.
He flies to Kentucky and visits a full-scale replica of Noah’s Ark. His final stop is Tennessee at a horror house in McCamey Manor. With this, he ends his journey and the first season comes to an end.
Quite an interesting journey it was. Visiting the places was fun but more than that the way he lived the culture of each place was really something new. We will learn a lot about the culture and traditions of each place he visited. Well, if the creators come back with Dark Tourist Season 2, it would be really worth watching.
