Written by Bill Kelly and directed by Kevin Lima, Enchanted is an American musical fantasy romantic comedy movie. It is about an archetypal Disney princess who will soon be sent away from her animated world to the live-action world in New York City. The film is a tribute to the best-animated works by Disney and has made various references to the same with a mixture of live-action filmmaking, traditional animation, and CGI.
This also saw the return of Disney to traditional animation and the company’s decision to shift to computer animation in 2004. The makers have hired composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, who have already worked on other Disney films in the past. They have also produced songs for Enchanted and Menken is the composer. Pasadena-based James Baxter Animation is involved in the animation and the show has been filmed in live locations across New York City.
Co-produced by Right Coast Productions, Josephson Entertainment, and Walt Disney Pictures, the makers have featured some most talented stars for the movie that includes Patrick Dempsey, Timothy Spall, Rachel Covey, Julie Andrews, Amy Adams, James Marsden, Idina Menzel, and Susan Sarandon.
Enchanted was released at the London Film Festival on October 20, 2007, and it was given a wide release on November 21 in the United States. Follows Adams, as a leading lady, earned a good response from critics and audiences, and the box office collected more than $340 million worldwide. Enchanted won three Best Fantasy Film, Saturn Awards, and Best Actress for Adams and Menken for Best Music.
The movie also received three nominations for Best Original Song at the 80th Academy Awards and two at the 65th Golden Globe Awards. It will be the first film from Walt Disney Pictures that will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures following Disney’s retirement from Buena Vista as their distributor. A second part of the movie, named Disenchanted, was released on November 18, 2022.
