Produced by Akio Matsuda, Hiroyuki Kitaura, Satoshi Fujii, and Takashi Kōchiyama, Ergo Proxy is a Japanese Post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk, and Psychological thriller anime television series. The show aired for 23 episodes on the Wowow satellite network in 2006.

The backdrop is set in a post-apocalyptic future where humans and AutoReiv androids remain together until a virus offers self-awareness inside the androids following which they commit murders. Inspector Re-L Mayer is hired for an investigation, and he finds a complicated plot that involves a humanoid species called Proxy who are a part of the government’s secret experiments.

The series featured voice artists for the characters including Re-l Mayer, Pino, Vincent Law, and many more are there.

The show takes inspiration from philosophy and Gnosticism and has a blending of 2D digital cel animation, 3D computer modeling, and digital special effects. Following the release in Japan, the anime was acquired for a DVD release along with a television broadcast on Fuse. It was even distributed at Australian, British and Canadian anime markers and has already received a positive response for the visuals and themes. The series debuted on Wowow on February 25, 2006.

A lineup of murders committed by AutoReivs affected by the Cognito virus starts to threaten the peace of Rondeau City. The government is also conducting secret experiments on a mysterious humanoid life form known as Proxy. These beings have the solution for humanity’s survival and the Regent’s granddaughter Re-I has been asked to find the culprit with Iggy. She discovers two humanoids who turn out to be Proxies. They are hunted down and Vincent temporarily remains in a commune outside the dome.

During the commune’s massacre by the Raul Creed of the Security Bureau, Vincent goes to his birthplace Mosk, to get back everything he lost. Re-I joins him in trying to find the truth between Proxies and Domes. It is disclosed that domes are created by Proxies and are unable to function without their presence in the domes.

The series debuted on the private satellite broadcasting and premium satellite television station Wowow on February 25, 2006. Gene-On Entertainment released the series into nine DVD volumes on May 25, 2006, which concluded on January 25, 2007, and on Region 1 the series released spanned six volumes and aired on November 21, 2006. On English Network, the series released its English dub of Ergo Proxy, which aired on June 9, 2007, on the pay-TV channel Fuse.

On August 6, 2007, on MVM Films Ergo Proxy was again released in the United Kingdom. From July 3 to December 4, 2007, the English dub of this series again aired on ABC2, and in Canada, it started their English dub of the series from July 26 to December 27, 2007, on Anime Current. In New Zealand and Australia, released in March 2007, was distributed by Madman Entertainment. If the second season is released we can predict that it will be available on the same platforms as season 1.
