Unlike a typical Hindi film or TV hero, Ray is not a perfect man for every girl. He is clumsy, unattractive, and self-conscious. Rather, he has flaws that are not concealed by the makers. Rather, it is much like us. When he sees an attractive girl and wants to ask her out, he can’t gather enough courage and ends up just greeting her, something which we all can relate to.
He is confused and uncertain about what should be done and more importantly single at 24 which is uncommon among youth at this age. Another quality that makes him relatable is that he is a loner with two friends one from school, and another from work. His work colleague Varun got engaged and celebrated the occasion at a bar when he convinced Ray to approach a random girl which backfires.
Since he is unable to understand himself and unable to share with anyone else he talks to a Wiz, that is a fictional wizard in various forms that is like his inner voice, the only solution for the confusion. Most of them will agree that Wiz is the bright factor of the film with an interesting presentation that kind of gives a reality check to Ray rather than pitying him. He never turns into a human which makes it more unique and attractive.
Ray’s parents are concerned about his romantic and sexual prospects that they end up fixing dates. We don’t exactly get the reason for him being a Virgin, single and underconfident. We often feel that its best features sometimes end up becoming the annoying ones. It does get funny but lacks the emotional quotient that is relevant to the situation. Overall, it makes a fun, delightful, and refreshing watch.
We can just hope that in case the next season happens, Ray doesn’t stay shy, self-loathing, and underconfident like he does in the debut season, or else it would seem highly exaggerated.
