Amy and Lino’s love story which is featured in Netflix’s recent show, ‘From Scratch’, has got the audience all teary-eyed. The American drama series, inspired by Tembi Locke’s memoir ‘From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily and Finding Home’, is a touching story of falling in love.
It tells the emotional tale of an American art student, who falls in love with a Sicilian chef named Lino while traveling in Florence. The show takes a fascinating look at their relationship, with everything from babies to marriage to family rifts covered in the series. As Lino becomes ill, their two families will need to work together to provide support.
The series is created by and executive-produced by Attica Locke and Tembi Locke. Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Richard Abate, Jermaine Johnson, Zoe Saldaña, and Will Rowbotham are also executive producers.
Nzingha Stewart, Guy Louthan, Emily Ferenbach, Cisely Saldaña, and Mariel Saldaña were its producers. The production companies are This One & That One, 3 Arts Entertainment, Cinestar, and Hello Sunshine. After the first season concluded, fans were eagerly waiting for some news regarding the second season. Here is what we know about it.
From Scratch Season 2 Release Date
As of now, neither the creators nor Netflix have confirmed if “From Scratch” will return for the second season. Being a finite series, the show’s renewal for a second season is highly unlikely. But if it does happen, fans are definitely going to look forward to it! However, given that it’s based on an independent memoir and the sadly definitive nature of its storyline, it’s likely to stay for one well-received season.
If we were to assume that season 2 will happen considering the success the first season received, we can say that the second season would release sometime in the second half of 2023.
From Scratch Season 2 Cast
If there would be a second season of ‘From Scratch’, it is most likely that Zoe Saldaña would return to reprise her role as Amy. We could also hope that Danielle Deadwyler (Zorra), Judith Scott (Maxine), Kellita Smith (Lynn), Lucia Sardo (Filomena), and Keith David (Hershel) would all return to their roles as well. Unfortunately, Eugenio Mastrandrea would not return as his character Lino died in the seventh episode of season 1.
However, it is likely that he could reappear in flashback scenes. Based on what timeline season 2 would be set in, it’s unlikely that Isla Colbert would reprise her role as Idalia (Amy and Lino’s daughter), as she would be too young for it and therefore, another actor would have to replace her for the role, which would show a new age of Idalia.
From Scratch Season 2 Plot
The series is based on the true story of Tombi Locke and her husband Saro Gullo, who sadly passed away in 2012 after he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, leiomyosarcoma. Tombi published a memoir of the same name about their love story in 2019, which is the inspiration for the series. In season 1 of ‘From Scratch’ we saw Amy, who came from Texas to Italy in order to take up art classes.
She met an Italian cook, Lino, by mere coincidence, and soon they fell in love with each other. The two finally decided to get married and in doing so, they had to make many sacrifices. They faced many challenges, but their love and unity surpassed it all and they eventually got through everything.
The show is inspired by Tombi’s life, so there’s a chance a second season will focus on what happened after Saro’s death. The show stays largely true to Tembi’s experiences, despite some minor changes. Attica told Entertainment Weekly that they had a “north star” to the project, which was starting the story with “young, passionate, erotic love” and then moving into showing how “Amy and Lino were going to grow up and have to deal with all this stuff with the family”.
She said they also knew Amy’s daughter, Idalia, would be an integral part of the story as the pair returns to Sicily together to connect with Lino’s family. “Once we had that spine, we knew that everything else could be kind of fictionalized, as long as it didn’t take us off that spine. By changing the names of the characters, that allowed them to be of the actual people, but free to move about the cabin in their own kind of way,” she said.

‘From Scratch’ is exclusively available on Netflix. One must purchase a subscription in order to watch the show. If the second season does happen, it will stream on Netflix, just like the previous season.
