A highly advanced and developed system, the Mizuhanome System, provides people with the permission to enter one of the most intriguing and interestingly convoluting places in the world- the brain of a human. “Cognition particles” that are left behind at each crime scene by the criminal are used by the highly skilled and specialized detectives from the police squad, Kura and they have the power to manifest a criminal’s unconscious brain as this weird and bizarre array of thoughts in a virtual world. Their job is to explore and discover this psychological seat of the plane, “id well”, and expose the criminal’s identity.

But the id well is not accessible to just anyone, only someone who has murdered someone themselves first can enter. Similar is the situation for ex-detective Akihito Narihisago, also known as “Sakaido” inside the id wells. He used to be an honorable and highly respected individual of the police but due to the tragic events that he had to go through he now finds himself on the other side of the law and justice.

Still, Narihisago assists Kura in confinement. Although his impeccable detective skills still continue to be an asset and turns out to be useful in investigating, Narihisago also discovers that everything is not how it looks from the outside, since what seems to be just a standalone murder case from outside has far more depth to it and is covering up many more sinister realities.
