In treatment is an American television or HP produced undeveloped by Rodrigo Garcia and falls under the genre of drama. Its executive producer and principal director were Paris Barclay, he directed 35 episodes of the show which is the number of shows any director has directed on the series. He is also the only director who directed episodes in all three seasons of the show.
It is a story about a psychotherapist named Paul Weston, a description of his weekly session with his patients and also his sessions with his therapist on the weekends. It also discusses the various problem faced by his patients and the inner fights of the therapist itself and how he chooses to reflect upon those demons. This show was aired on January 28th, 2008 as a five-night-a-week series. In Treatment Recap And Plot Summary
In Treatment Recap Season 1
The season opens with Laura, who is a patient of Paul confessing her love for him which makes their relationship difficult. Laura was seduced by a much older man back when she was a teenager and required help in that area. She also informs Paul about the unsatisfying sexual relationship she had with Alex, who is another one of patient of Paul, former fighter pilot who died during a training exercise, and although his death was announced to be an accident, some of the things indicated that it was a suicidal reaction to the stimulus of trauma or guilt for killing Iraqi schoolchildren during a sanctioned mission.
Paul tries to understand his feelings and concludes that he is also in love with Laura which would be highly unprofessional if he takes any action over it. Paul goes to see Gina, his former mentor whom he hasn’t seen for 10 years to resolve his inner conflicts, to choose between his desire to be with Laura and his professional responsibility, to not have any kind of romantic relationship with a patient. The next few episodes talk about Sophie another patient of Paul, who had an underage sexual relationship with her much older gymnastics coach. It is told that Sophie benefits greatly from the therapy and also repairs her relationship with her parents.
The next episodes talk about a couple, Jake and Amy who argue about whether Amy should have an abortion or not. the couple seems to be extremely dysfunctional, with both of the partners not being able to understand each other. Amy has a miscarriage but the couple continues to see Paul work out their issues and it is revealed that Amy has an affair with her boss just to get back at Jake. Paul provides both Jake and Amy with an individual session after which decide to end their marriage and share custody of their son. Paul decides that he needs Gina in his life as a therapists and continues his therapy with her.
In Treatment Recap Season 2
In the second season, Paul gets a divorce and moves to Brooklyn where he is served with a malpractice lawsuit by Alex sr., father of Alex. Paul is charged with the failure of preventing the death of Alex who not to mention voluntarily discontinued his therapy and whose death was announced to be an accident.
Paul is blamed for being unprofessional and irresponsible due to his failure to contact the military and report Alex unfit for duty due to his trauma. Alex sr. offers a deal to call saying that if he writes a letter taking all the blame for Alex’s death he will drop the lawsuit. Paul considers the offer but later rejects it after discussing it with his therapist Gina. The lawsuit is dismissed later on.
In Treatment Recap Season 3 and 4
In the 3rd season, Paul changes his therapist to a young psychoanalyst Adele Brouse. There are only three patients throughout the season and Paul is now dating a young girl named Wendy. On Mondays, he has sessions with Sunil, who is a widower transported to New York from Calcutta to live with his son. He has Frances on Tuesdays, who is a successful actress but has difficulty in remembering her lines and has also difficulties in coping up with the drama of her dying sister a broken marriage, and or teenage daughter who hates her.
He sees Jesse on Wednesdays who is gay and thinks that his adopted parents hate him due to that reason. Paul continues to see his therapist Adele who concludes that lack of sleep is not his real problem. The show was renewed for a fourth season after 10 years, which also discussed the life of Paul, the protagonist, and his patients.

The first season of the show was aired on January 28th, 2008 and the last episode was aired on March 28th, 2008 the show had a total of 43 episodes. The second season which had 35 episodes premiered on April 5, 2009, and ended on May 5, 2009. The first episode of season three premiered on October 25, 2010, and the last episode aired on December 7th, 2010 but had 28 episodes only.
Season four finally aired on May 23, 2021, and continued up until June 28, 2021, and had a total of 24 episodes. At present, the show sits at the rating of 8.3 out of 10 on IMDb Although who are disappointed season five of the show was cancelled So there would be no more episodes of in treatment.
