Is Los Espookys Based On True Story?
No, the series Los Espookys is not based on real life. The writers created this series with completely imaginary characters.
Even though the entire plotline is fictional, some of the references and traits of the series are based on real-life culture. The series is created in Spanish. The show perfectly portrays and explains the myths of Latin culture that are actually prevalent in most Latin American countries even today.
Most Latinxs are educated about spirits from a very young age which gets passed on to their generations. This can be seen in the characters’ beliefs in the series. Especially Andres, throughout the series believed that there is a spirit following him that wanted to watch “The King’s Speech”.
One of the creators of the series Julio Torres explained in an interview that growing up in El Salvador made him educated a lot on paranormal activities through local news. He said, “They would do a lot of stories of people getting possessed and people speaking in tongues.”. These stories gave him a lot of inspiration for the horror aspect of the series.
This clearly explains that the series is not based on real life and only the cultural aspect of the series is real and the other factors are completely fictional.
