The story takes place in the well-known Shuchiin Academy where Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya are the top representatives and symbolic of the entire student body. Along with him, there is Kaguya, the vice-president. She is the oldest of all the daughters in the wealthy and famous Shinomiya family and is an all-rounder of course. There is not a single field she is not skilled at. Naturally, both of them are the subject of jealousy, envy, and insecurity for the entire student body and are regarded as the perfect power couple as well.
Even though the two of them already have developed feelings for each other, none of them has been willing to take the bold step of taking the lead and confessing to one another. The first who admits to their feelings will be considered lower or lesser and looked down upon. Since their reputation and pride is all at stake too, both of them are competitive about this too and are aimed at emerging successful on the battlefield of love.
