Created by Roberto Stopello, La Reina Del Sur is a Spanish-language telenovela drama series that is based on the same name novel by Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte. The series is also known as The Queen of the South. The executive producers of the series are Patricio Wills, Rodrigo Guerrero, Kate del Castillo, Ximena Cantuarias, Marcos Santana, Martha Godoy, and Rodrigo Guerrero.

The makers have hired some talented stars for the characters of the series that included Kate del Castillo, Rafael Amaya, Miguel de Miguel, Humberto Zurita, Ivan Sanchez, Alberto Jiménez, Alejandro Calva, Beth Chamberlin, Sara Maldonado, Christian Tappan, Alejandro Calva, Salvador Zerboni, and many more are there.

The series debuted on February 28, 2011, produced by the American television network Telemundo in conjunction with the Antena 3 network and RTI Producciones. The show is made on a budget of $10 million, making it the second most expensive telenovela after El Senor de Los Cielos. A remake was also developed in English, titled Queen of the South, which was released in June 2016 on USA Network. Telemundo announced that the series was renewed for a third season on 16 July 2020, which premiered on 18 October 2022.

In 2011, at the People in Spanish Awards, Roberto Stopello Kate del Castillo, and Cristina Urgel won the awards of Best Telenovela, Best Actress, and Newcomer of the Year, respectively, for the series. In 2020, at International Emmy Awards the series won the award for Best Non-English Language U.S. Primetime Program.
