The joy (and despair) of the anthology format is that you never know what to expect from one season to the next, let alone from one episode to the next. However, one major spoiler for the third season has already surfaced, bringing a sense of continuity to this disjointed series.

Supervising director Jennifer Yuh Nelson revealed in a recent Reddit AMA that there will be returning characters in Love, Death & Robots Season 3: specifically, the three tourist robots from Season 1’s episode “Three Robots.”

“We wanted to make sure that “Three Robots” came back, it was one of our favorites and one of the fan favorites,” Tim Miller said of the show’s return to Inverse.

The film “Three Robots” was inspired by a short story by John Scalzi, a frequent collaborator with Miller. “My go-to dude is John Scalzi.” He’s a mastermind, a nice guy, and a big fan of the show. “I hang out with him even when we’re not doing show business,” Miller explained. This close collaboration should result in a sequel that fans will enjoy, as well as more similar stories that will undoubtedly become new favorites.

Not quite yet. While this series is distinguished by the inclusion of various shorts created by different crews with distinct animation styles, this approach complicates the series’ development. Because each short is created independently, a trailer will most likely be curated only after a sufficient number of them have been completed and delivered to the series’ creators.

However, if Netflix follows the same marketing strategy as Season 2, we can expect to see a full trailer for Love, Death & Robots at least one month before its release.
