Lucy 2 Release Date, Cast, Plot, and Everything Else

François Truffaut’s Lucy is a science fiction action film. Luc Besson, who also produced the film, wrote and directed Luci. The film’s production was overseen by Virginie Besson Sillie, Luc’s wife. Themis was shot in a number of places, including Paris, New York, and Taipei.

With his unusual filmography, which includes masterpieces like ‘Leon: The Professional’ and ‘The Fifth Element,’ Luc Besson has brought us the most bizarre action-thrillers. His action films are noted for their amazing cinematography and strong, well-written female protagonists. He delivered us the unconventional superhero we never knew we needed with his 2014 sci-fi action flick, ‘Lucy,’ starring Scarlett Johansson as the titular character.

Because of Besson’s intellectual and existential approach to the film, ‘Lucy’ is much more than a sci-fi action thriller. Through Lucy’s persona, he examines what would happen if humans could access all 100 percent of their brain’s ability, based on the scientific misconception that humans can only use 10% of their brain’s capacity.

Of course, ‘Lucy’ isn’t scientifically correct, but it doesn’t have to be because the issues it raises are far more important than its truth.

Lucy Plot

Lucy Plot

Lucy, played by Scarlett Johansson, is a Taiwanese student who is duped into working as a drug mule for a Korean drug lord due to her boyfriend. She is kidnapped and forced to have a bag of narcotics surgically placed within her. When the bag unexpectedly breaks, the medicines start to react in her body, allowing her to gradually access up to 100% of her brain’s capacity.

Lucy then transforms into a superhuman as her mental and physical talents improve. There has been speculation over whether or not a sequel will be made since the film’s debut in 2014. In 2017, there were rumors that it would happen and that Besson had even prepared the script for one, however, these were quickly debunked. In any case, ‘Lucy 2’ has a lot of potentials, and here’s all we know thus far.

Lucy 2 Release Date & Updates

The last time there was chatter about a sequel to ‘Lucy’ was in 2017, when Shmuger claimed that it was in the works, which Besson flatly denied. Since then, there have been no updates on the sequel, thus there is no way of knowing for sure if it will ever materialize. ‘Lucy 2’ might be released in 2023 if it is given the green signal soon.

What can Lucy 2 be about?

What can Lucy 2 be about

Lucy can access all knowledge in the universe thanks to her heightened physical and mental talents, and she obtains superhuman abilities such as telekinesis, telepathy, and mental time travel throughout the film. With her newfound abilities, she seeks vengeance on those who caused her affliction. Professor Norman, played by Morgan Freeman, also assists her in better understanding her condition, and she gradually uncovers all of the universe’s greatest mysteries.

Lucy is unsure what to do with her abilities and thinks that the only thing she can do is pass on what she has learned. Lucy disappears into the space-time continuum at the end of the film, declaring that she is everywhere. Despite its scientific shortcomings, ‘Lucy’ functions as a heroic origin narrative in many respects. However, because of the film’s finale, it’s unknown whether Lucy would return in her human form in a possible sequel.

If a sequel to ‘Lucy’ is ever made, it should ideally investigate Besson’s confusing finale. It might also go into what occurs when Lucy’s knowledge is in Professor Norman’s hands. What is the state of the globe today? What will happen to Lucy now that she is omnipresent?

Is she in charge of the entire world? Is she a good fighter? There are a plethora of alternatives here. In addition, because this is a philosophical sci-fi thriller, the ethics of having unlimited knowledge in the hands of multiple humans, such as Lucy, should be explored. I’m betting that after Lucy, there would have been a lot more trials with the medications she was exposed to. These ideas should ideally be explored in the sequel.

Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman play Lucy and Professor Samuel Norman, respectively, in ‘Lucy.’ Mr. Jang, the film’s main adversary, is played by Choi Min-sik, while Amr Waked plays Pierre Del Rio, who, according to Besson, represents the audience and provides some optimism in the storey.

If there were to be a sequel to the picture, Lucy would have to appear in some way, as it was Scarlett Johansson’s performance that made it what it is.

It would only make sense for her to return as the film is titled “Lucy.” Morgan Freeman and Pierre Del Rio would be back for the sequel if the sequel follows and continues the storey of the first film.

Choi Min-Sik is less likely to return for the sequel because Jang is tragically shot at the end. This means that for ‘Lucy 2,’ we’ll need a new principal antagonist as well as several new characters, all of whom will require new cast members.

‘Lucy’ was directed and written by Luc Besson, who also penned the screenplay. He worked on it because he was fascinated by the human brain’s capabilities and decided to investigate them in terms of ethics, morality, and mortality.

He used a philosophical approach, transforming an ordinary woman into a superhero who doesn’t know what to do with so much power. This is what sets ‘Lucy’ apart from the rest of the science fiction and superhero genres. Besson philosophizes about humanity in the midst of all that power.

It also appeared to imply that Besson had already drafted a sequel script. However, Besson himself disputed this a few days later, calling it “false news” and revealing that he had no plans to work on a sequel to “Lucy.”

This could be fake news, but because the reported source of the info was Shmuger, there’s still the possibility of a sequel to the film, as there’s no smoke without fire.
