‘Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area’ is an upcoming South Korean crime thriller based on the Spanish heist drama ‘Money Heist’. The Korean Heist drama is directed by Kim Hong-sun and is written by Ryu Yong-jae, Kim Hwan-Chae, and Choe Sung-jun. It stars Yoo Ji-Tae, Park Hae-soo, Jeon Jong-Seo, Lee Won-jong, and Park Myung-hoon in the lead roles.

The first season of ‘Money Heist Korea’ is airing on Netflix on June 24, 2022. The South Korean series has a total of 12 episodes with a running time of one hour each. As we all know, the Korean Money Heist is the remake of the Spanish series ‘La casa da papel’ released on Netflix on May 2, 2017. It has three seasons in five parts with a total of 41 episodes each, with a running time of around an hour each. 

The Spanish series was directed by Alex Rodrigo, Fernando Cayo, Jesus Colmenar, and Miquel Garcia Borda. The story centers on a professor who recruits eight people to carry out a plan that includes entering the Royal Mint of Spain and stealing 2400 million. To carry out the plan, they keep 67 public as hostages and take 11 days to print the money they are going to escape with. By the end of the first heist, we get to know that the intelligent professor is already planning a heist to escape with gold from the Bank of Spain. 

The Korean series is a remake of the Spanish series, we can expect the storyline and theme to be the same. Soon after the release of Season 1 of the series, we can expect Season 2 anytime. Though the creators haven’t made any official announcement regarding Season 2 of the series, we can confidently wait for it. So let’s hope for the best and for the time being let’s enjoy watching Season 1.

The gang members in the lead roles are Yoo Ji-Tae as Professor, Jeon Jong-Seo as Tokyo, Park Hae-soo as Berlin, Lee Won-jong as Moscow, Kim Ji-hoon as Denver, Lee Hyun-woo as Rio, Kim Ji-hun as Helsinki, Lee Kyu-ho as Oslo, and Jang Yoon-ju as Nairobi. 

The task force members who are assigned to deal with the heist are Kim Yun-jin as Seon Woo-jin, a crisis negotiation team leader belonging to the National Police Agency

  • Kim Sung-oh as Captain Cha Moo-hyuk, a former special agent assigned to handle the hostage crisis. 
  • The main hostages are Park Myung-hoon as Cho Young-min, director of the Mint Bureau
  • Lee Joo-bin as Yoon Mi-Seon, an employee in charge of accounting at the Mint Bureau. 
  • Other casts include Lim Ji-Yeon, Lim Hyeong-guk, and Lee Si-woo as Ann.

The storyline of the Spanish Hoist series is similar to that of the Spanish series. The drama begins with the intelligent professor planning to conduct a heist on the Korean Peninsula. The professor carefully recruits eight criminals with masterminds and teaches them almost everything, starting from printing currencies to using weapons for self-defense. Eight of them were given names of eight different cities to keep their real name a secret. Even the eight of them don’t know the other ones’ real names. They kidnap 67 hostages and keep them inside the Bank to negotiate with the task force. But things take an unusual turn when the hostages start to react. Will the professor be able to clear the created mess?

The South Korean series ‘Money Heist Korea – Joint Economic Area’ will be available to be Watched on Netflix from June 24, 2022.
