Will there be a Nailed It Season 8?

Are you an absolutely horrid baker? Does your bowl of raw eggs have more shells than eggs? Do you set the smoke alarm off with your “skills” and attempt to make brownies but end up with lumpy approximations of cookies? There’s no need to feel too bad about ourselves. Horrid is good as Netflix awards $10,000 and a ‘nailed it!’ trophy to the best of the worst bakers on its bake-off competition series ‘Nailed It!’. Here is everything we know about the reality television series.

Nailed It! is a baking competition series with a reality twist produced by Magical Elves Productions on Netflix. Presented by the loud and hilarious host, Nicole Byer, and Jacques Torres, Nailed It! is like no other bake-off series we have seen before. The television series is mainly executive-produced by Patrick J. Doody and Cat Sullivan with many other producers like Daniel Calin, Jillian Mireles, Dale Pitman, and Ryan Cooper momentarily joining the crew. You can see a complete list of the Nailed It! crew.

Nailed It! premiered on Netflix on March 9, 2018. Seven seasons and two-holiday specials have been released since then. Nailed It! Season 7 titled Nailed It! Halloween is the most recent four-episode season released on October 5, 2022.

What is ‘Nailed It!’ about?

Nailed It! is a two-part competition where three amateur bakers attempt to recreate two elaborate cakes, the first one of their choice, and the second one, a grand test. Each episode of Nailed It! is about thirty-five minutes long but the competition actually takes longer than that. Prior to the bake-off, the horrid skills of the bakers are demonstrated, just to be sure we aren’t getting a professional baker pretending to be an amateur for the grand prize of $10,000. This one is for us after all, we get to be paid for being bad.

In the first challenge, named ‘Baker’s Choice’, the contestants are allowed to choose which masterpiece they would be attempting to re-create. The winner of this part gets a special prize and gets to wear a Golden chef’s hat throughout the second challenge. Because this is a show that celebrates imperfection, the worst baker in this challenge gets a little something that helps in the second challenge as well.

In the second challenge, named ‘Nail It or Fail It’, contestants attempt to recreate a complicated cake from scratch, with two hours on the clock. Each contestant gets a ‘Panic Button’, which gives them three minutes of assistance from any one of the judges. Now for the little prize, I mentioned before, the worst baker from the previous challenge gets an additional button. I will call it the ‘Sabotage Button’ (it’s not called that on the show). This button allows the worst-performing baker to call in a favor to waste the other bakers’ time. The button usually means Nicole Byer, one of the judges, gets to annoy the crap out of the bakers, but it could mean other things.

Finally, the three judges, Nicole Byer, Jacques Torres, and a guest judge that changes each episode, decide on the winning cake based on presentation and taste. The winner is declared, and the grand prize of $10,000 and a Nailed It! trophy is awarded to the best of the worst bakers.

Will there be a Nailed It Season 8?

Unfortunately, the production of Nailed It! was suspended indefinitely on March 1, 2022, after the crew went on strike to secure a contract with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. As of today, Nailed It! has neither been canceled nor renewed for season 8, but the bet is on the latter.

Nailed It! has done alright so far, with a rating of 7.4/10 on IMDb and 4.2/5 on Facebook. The show won an MTV Unscripted Movie & TV Award for Best Lifestyle Show in 2021 and has over thirty nominations. In 2021, host Nicole Byer was nominated as Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, making her the first Black woman to be nominated for the award.

Although the remarkable performance of Nailed It! does not secure its future, as proven by popular series that have been canceled by Netflix prematurely in the past, we hope to see more of this hot mess of competition in the nearest future. A mobile game named Nailed It! Baking Bash was also launched by Netflix’s game services on October 4, 2022. So there is plenty to keep us busy while we wait.
