American director, actor, writer, and producer Noah Harpster and American producer, director, and screenwriter Micah Fitzerman-Blue created for Netflix a brand new American drama limited series which is also written by Fitzerman-Blue. Harpster and Fitzerman-Blue are also the executive producers of the series, and Chris Hatcher serves as producer. The show is inspired by a New Yorker article by Patrick Radden Keefe.

It will revolve around the birth of an opioid crisis with more importance on oxycontin’s manufacturer, Purdue Pharma. The series was called Tamarack and this was the info that was revealed before the show’s release.

Based on a New Yorker article by Patrick Radden Keefe and will revolve around the birth of an opioid crisis with more importance towards oxycontin’s manufacturer, Purdue Pharma, the series started filming in April 2021, in Toronto and was completed in November 2021. But the release date has not been confirmed yet. But they have announced that the series will be released in 2022, and will have 6 episodes.

The first two episodes of the series are written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster, the third episode is written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue, Noah Harpster, and Will Hettinger, the fourth and fifth episodes are written by Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster along with Boo Killebrew, sixth and the last episodes is also written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster.

The show focuses on the opioid crisis beginning, which is creating a lot of issues in the country. Now to understand the overall thing, we need to have a look at the background and themes that we would witness in the show.

It is inspired by real events which were mentioned in a New Yorker story by Patrick Radden Keefe in October 2017. Patrick also published his book following the story and the headline of the article stated – “The Family That Built an Empire of Pain”. It explored the Sackler dynasty from every angle trying to unearth the things known and unknown to everyone, and Keefe is already working as the show’s consultant.

The series will take material from the book titled Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origins of America’s Opioid Epidemic by Barry Meier. Sacklers’ story has already been used in the past for another adaptation followed by an HBO documentary, Crime of the Century, and the Hulu miniseries Dopesick, which was released last year.
