Created by Ava DuVernay, Queen Sugar is an American drama television series. It is based on the same name novel which is written by American writer Natalie Baszile. DuVernay is also the executive producer of the series along with Anthony Sparks, Oprah Winfrey, and Melissa Carter. Queen Sugar focuses on three siblings from rural Louisiana who have to battle with the consequences of their father’s demise and decide the future of his sugarcane farm spread over 800 acres. The theme of the show mostly features episodes based on racial profiling, the existence of chattel slavery, and inequality in the criminal justice system alongside other problems of African Americans.
