The Rez Dogs are back with more petty crimes, grieving, community drama, and escape plans. Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi’s teen drama series, Reservation Dogs is back with a second season.

Reservation Dogs is a Native American television series about four Oklahoman teenagers facing adult challenges as they deal with the death of their friend, and struggle to achieve their “California dream”. The teen comedy-drama series was created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi for FX and was first released on August 9, 2021. All 18 episodes of Reservation Dogs were filmed only in Oklahoma, making it one of the first series to do that. Piki Films, a production company founded by Taika Waititi and Carthew Neal, alongside FXP, and Film Rite organized the filming of the show.

Executive producers of Reservation Dogs are Sterlin Harjo, Taika Waititi, and Garrett Basch. Mark Schwartzbard and Christian Springer handled the cinematography of the TV series.

Reservation Dogs Season 2 Release Date

Following the premiere of Reservation Dogs Season 1 on August 9, 2021, the teen drama series was renewed for season 2 on September 2021. Unlike season 1, which had eight episodes, Reservation Dogs Season 2 has ten episodes, each one about thirty minutes long. The second season of the comedy-drama premiered on August 3, 2022, with its first two episodes dropping on FX on Hulu. New episodes of Reservation Dogs Season 2 were released weekly on Wednesdays. Reservation Dogs Season 2 Plot

Season 2 of Reservation Dogs is the story of the gang drifting apart, and facing their individual problems on their own while dealing with the truth of their souring friendship. We see Elora and her gang rival, Jackie on a rough trip to California, one that ends when Mabel, Elora’s grandmother gets sick. Willie Jack and Cheese find the materials to reverse a curse Willie Jack believes broke the gang up. Bear gets a job and talks about Daniel’s death with Daniel’s father. Cheese is sent to a group home, where he also talks about Daniel. Willie Jack and Bear are graduating high school. Finally, a letter from Daniel changes everything for the better.

In this season, many of the characters confront their ghosts while seeking and accepting the guidance of ancestral spirits. We see the gang, and other natives of the reservation unpack their past traumas in order to grow. And through it all, despite the rifts in the community, they show up for each other when it really matters.

Like its first season, Reservation Dog’s Season 2 received many positive reviews for handling dark materials such as trauma and grief, with a level of humor that is neither excessive nor bland. The show authentically conveys the feeling of being a teenager, wanting to get out of the same community you are trying to fit in, and everything you would do to reach those greener pastures of your imagination. It portrays roadblocks, traumas, and experiences both teenagers and adults can relate to, all while remaining true to the vision of its Native American crew.

In terms of ratings, Reservation Dogs Season 2 performed better than season 1, taking one step up from the first season’s 99% rating to 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and several steps up from 83/100 to 93/100 on Metacritic. As of today, the teen drama series has a rating of 8.1/10 on IMDb, and 84% on Google.
