The wait is finally over! The American fantasy series created by Eric Heisserer is officially back with its second season. ‘Shadow and Bone’ is developed from two series of books in the Grishaverse series by Leigh Bardugo, the Shadow and Bone trilogy (2012–2014) and the Six of Crows duology (2015–2016). The first season was adapted from ‘Shadow and Bone’ (2013) including an original storyline of the Crows, a criminal group for which the eponymic duology is chosen.
On the other hand, season 2 will be seen covering Siege and Storm (2013), along with the original storyline featuring the Crows. The show follows the journey of Alina Starkov, an orphan and cartographer for the Ravka nation’s First Army. As she discovers she’s a Grisha, one with special gifts, destined to address a world problem.
This show which is Netflix’s deal with 21 Laps Entertainment, has Eric Heisserer as showrunner, creator, head writer, and executive producer. The other executive producers include Shawn Levy, Leigh Bardugo, Pouya Shahbazian, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen, and Josh Barry. In June 2021, it was announced that the series was going to be revived for a second season consisting of 8 episodes, for which production began in January 2022. It was confirmed in June 2022 that the filming of the second season was officially over.
Shadow and Bone season 2 Release Date
Season two of ‘Shadow and Bone’ was announced on June 7, 2021, via an announcement trailer clip. The main focus of the clip was all the new faces joining the show for season 2. In TUDUM’s virtual event on Saturday 24th September 2022, Netflix revealed the first look of the show and announced that it will premiere sometime in 2023. This season will also have 8 episodes like the previous season, which was released on April 23, 2021.

In addition to these, IMDb also informed us that Janet Kumah will play Keme in season 2. There is also speculation that Joanna McGibbon will play Nadya.
Shadow and Bone season 2 Plot
There are eight nations within the Grisha universe: Ravka, Fjerda, Shu Han, Kerch, Novyi Zem, and the Wandering Isle. Language, culture, and tradition are adapted from countries around the world (drawn from various historical periods). There is a common misconception that Grisha is a “magic-users”, but in their own words, they are practitioners of “The Small Science,” which reflects a gift that each individual possesses for manipulating matter at the molecular level.
As the first season ended, Alina and Mal, aided by Zoya and the Crows, stopped the Darkling. In all, but Zoya, they jumped aboard a ship sailing from Ravka, where they would lay low for as long as possible. She then sets out on her own. It was further shown that Darkling was not killed in the Shadow Fold, but he instead arises from the Fold with Shadow soldiers behind him.
Season 2 focuses on content from Siege and Storm, the second novel in the trilogy. Considering that it follows the book pretty closely, then Alina and her friends will soon learn that Kirigan did not die in the Shadow Fold and that he has mysterious powers that he is using to seek out her. In the upcoming season, it remains unclear if the Six of Crows events will be explored.
So far, the show has shown Nina Zenik’s relationship with Matthias Helvar, which is only described in flashbacks in the books, but it hasn’t addressed the major events of the novel. We can only guess what else will be added based on casting news. We will also most likely see Alina and Mal on the run from the Darkling, who will want revenge and Alina’s power. The Crows will be summoned for one of the biggest heists in history.
Where to watch Shadow and Bone season 2?
The second of ‘Shadow and Bone’ will exclusively air on Netflix in 2023.
