Set in a Nottinghamshire mining village, two dreadful assassinations shatter the now broken community with a dark previous. Separations from the miners’ strike (1984–85) have continued. The story is roughly based on the manslaughter of trade unionist Keith Frogson in 2004.

It commences with the manslaughter of a former union activist, Gary Jackson (Alun Armstrong). Jackson’s interest in previous police underground happenings within the municipal leads the police to suspect a link with the miners’ strike.
