Slow Horses is a spy thriller television series based on the 2010 novel of the same name by Mick Herron. The season 1 ending of the show was quite memorable for the fans as they were surprised by watching the trailer for season 2! And thus, there is no doubt that a return to Slough House is going to be happening sooner rather than later.
This adaptation of the first of Mick Herron’s Slough House collection of spy novels shows spies in exile who try to extend their marred careers in dilapidated, contemporary London. The show was well acknowledged by the audience and critics, and, as per Rotten Tomatoes, the show received 84% from the former and 94% from the latter.
The writers of the show are Morwenna Banks, Will Smith, Jonny Stockwood, and Mark Denton. It is directed by James Hawes and Jeremy Lovering, and executive produced by Iain Canning, Hakan Kousetta, Jamie Laurenson, Gail Mutrux, Emile Sherman, Will Smith, Douglas Urbanski, and Graham Yost. The production companies of the show are See-Saw Films, Flying Studio Pictures, and Sony Pictures Television Studios.

From the trailer, it also looked like Freddie Fox’s Spider Webb and Olivia Cooke’s Sid Baker may also make appearances, but we can’t be completely sure as the official cast list has yet to come out. As far as new characters, Rade Serbedzija (‘Taken 2’, ‘The Blacklist’) looks to be playing the antagonist of the new season, the dangerous Russian that has come to make trouble in London.
Slow Horses Season 2 Plot
The overall plot of ‘Slow Horses’ is based on Mick Herron’s Slough House series of spy novels, which focus on a group of disgraced MI5 agents that form an unlikely team regarding saving the day. It revolves around the members of Slough House, an espionage department where MI5 dumps everyone that seems unfit.
The grumpy and pessimistic leader of the Slough House, Jackson Lamb (Oldham) knows the agents who end up there are being treated unfairly, and they’re not meant to be doing any real spying. However, to their benefit, their unique condition also makes them able to investigate crimes, involving people in power, which also means some of the M15 members, without anyone noticing them.
Season 1 was based on the first book, ‘Slow Horses’. While the first season of Slow Horses led the unwilling leader of the Slough House to use his group of misfits to investigate a delicate hostage situation, Season 2’s trailer revealed that episodes from the new season would deal with sleeper agents coming back to service, which puts the MI5 in danger, forcing the Slough House to act once more. Season 2 is set to tell the story of the second book in the collection, Dead Lions.
Author Mick Herron told Radio Times, “Slow Horses was very faithful to the plot of the original book. That’s probably less true in the next one for a variety of reasons. All the big changes to plots have been made with either my happy agreement or, sometimes, at my suggestion.”
