Created by American television and movie screenwriter, voice artist, actor, and producer Meaghan Oppenheimer for Hulu, Tell Me Lies is an American drama television series. It is based on the same name novel of 2018, which was written by Carola Lovering. It focuses on the relationship of Lucy Albright and Stephen DeMarco and everything that happens in the eight years of their lives after meeting each other at college. Oppenheimer is also the executive producer of the series along with Karah Preiss, Shannon Gibson, Laura Lewis, Jonathan Levine, Emma Roberts, Matthew Matruski, Samantha Schlaifer, Stephanie Noonan, Gillian Bohrer, Mathew Hart, and Jessica Badenoch are the producers.
While the series was announced by the producers, Grace Van Patten was brought in to play an important role. Jackson White also joined the main cast of the show on November 19, 2021, and the producers started to hire more faces like Sonia Mena, Catherine Missal, and Alicia Crowder by December 9, 2021. The casting process still continued for a few more months, with Branden Cook, Spencer House, and Benjamin Wadsworth being brought in for other pivotal roles in the show. The last in the lineup were Gabriella Pession. Edmund Donovan, and Natalee Linez were hired to play recurring roles in the show by April 14, 2022.
It was revealed in September 2020 that Emma Roberts locked a deal with Hulu through her production company, Belletrist TV and she decided to adopt Tell Me Lies by Carola Lovering for television. According to reports coming out in August 2021, Hulu gave a full series order to the production. Meaghan Oppenheimer is one of the creators and Roberts is also the executive producer, along with Karah Preiss, Laura Lewis, and Shannon Gibson.
Bellatrist Productions, Rebelle Media, and Vice Studios are involved in the production of the show. Jonathan Levine was hired to helm the pilot episode on April 14, 2022, and was also confirmed to be the executive producer. The show eventually premiered on September 7, 2022. The first season of Tell Me Lies received a good response from critics and audiences, and it currently holds an approval rating of 86% on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.
