The Corps Season 1 Expected Plot
The Corps is a 1990 drama that centers on attractive outsider Cameron Cope (Heizer), a harassed gay high school student who impulsively enlists in the Marines alongside his best buddy Ray (Liam Oh), who is straight, in the expectation that he will finally be treated like a “real man.” At a time when being gay in the military meant receiving a prison term or worse, it was a risky act. Amid actual and symbolic land mines, the two buddies enroll in Marine Corps boot camp and join a platoon of young men embarking on a terrifying transformational adventure.
Ray is Cameron’s greatest buddy by a mile, and he is the son of a strict Marine. He is under constant pressure to perform at his highest level, yet boot camp causes him to lose confidence in himself, forcing him to rethink his life course.
Cameron, played by Heizer, shares an unorganized home with his narcissistic mother, Barbara, who Vera Farmiga plays. Barbara is a chameleon who is always on the run from the consequences of her deeds, but when Cameron ships off, she loses her sense of herself.
Sgt. Sullivan, the epitome of an elite Recon Marine, is portrayed by Max Parker. On countless top-secret operations, he has received awards for his bravery but finds it difficult to conceal his own secret. Sullivan, plagued by his history, recognizes himself in Cameron and attempts to prepare him for the same inner conflict he would have after boot camp.
