The series was created by Akiva Goldsman who is also serving as the executive producer of the series along with Tom Holland, Michael Schaefer, Arnon Milchan, Suzanne Heathcote, Kornél Mundruczó, Alexandra Milchan, and Yariv Milchan.

Akiva Goldsman was hired to write a 10-episode anthology show, and the first season was said to be adapted from the novel The Minds of Billy Milligan by Daniel Keyes. Goldsman was announced as the producer alongside Weed Road company, Tom Holland, Alexandra Milchan, EMJAG Productions, Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milachan, Michael Schaefer, and New Regency. Season 1 was revealed to be based on Goldsman’s life along with being inspired by Keyes’ novel.
Jornel Mundruczo was brought in to helm the episodes and work as an executive producer with Suzanne Heathcote. Filming for The Crowded Room started in New York City on March 31, 2022, and concluded on September 28, 2022. Even though filming for the series has concluded still, the makers have not confirmed the release date of this upcoming anthology series. They are set to fall out of the series in 2023.
The Crowded Room Plot
The series will be made in a fully anthological manner and will portray the struggle along with courage and determination that mental patients go through while battling with their situation. The plot will combine Goldman’s personal life and the novel written by Daniel Keyes.
Complaints of rape and extortion at the Ohio State University became common in 1977 when victims were kidnapped to the countryside, raped, and robbed. However, the culprit left fingerprints in a car and his identity was revealed to be William “Billy” Milligan following an investigation.
Things took a turn when Billy slammed the toilet bowl in his cell and tried to cut his wrists. The psychological evaluation revealed that he was suffering from Dissociative Personality Disorder, meaning that he had 24 personalities with different identities, hobbies, and responsibilities. Danny Sullivan’s character is somewhat inspired by Billy Milligan.
