After 37 years, Netflix released a prequel to Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal season 2, and it was met with rave reviews from fans and reviewers alike: The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Given the show’s immense popularity, giving it a second season is fair. However, will there be other seasons?

Season one of Age of Resistance took several years to produce, but season two will take less time because most of the work is finished (the puppets and sets have been constructed). Though the second season will undoubtedly introduce us to new locations and characters (more on this in a bit), we may have to wait longer than Netflix’s standard 12-month timetable to see it.

We prefer a delay of a few months. We enjoy watching the second season of Age of Resistance in the fall/winter because, despite the show’s target audience of children, the first season maintained the “dark” of The Dark Crystal. The first season premiere was announced in May 2017 and premiered in August of this year. Seasons one and two should be separated by at least 14 months. At the earliest, it will be late in 2020. (given the world situation).

We learn in the first season that There is a fading world. An illness has been spreading, and the Crystal of Truth has been broken and tainted by the malicious Skeksis. The story opens with three Gelfling learning the terrible truth about the Skeksis and their ability to control the world, which sparks a rebellion and sets in motion an epic fight for the planet’s fate.

Even though that’s what the synopsis said before the episode aired, the series was far more complex, emotionally engaging, and terrifying. Season two is expected to continue Rian, Brea, and Deet’s experiences while expanding the world of Thra and bringing new characters to the fight between the Gelfling and the Skeksis. Those interested in the show’s future should read the first book in the Dark Crystal young adult novel, Shadows of the Dark Crystal, as it was a reference for the first season (even if it wasn’t a direct adaptation).

Co-executive producer Javier Grillo-Marxuach told io9, “The YA novels sort of starting to set a lot of the blueprint for the type of blossom of Gelfling civilization being in full bloom.” This TV show features seven distinct Gelfling species, representing various cultural development. You’re witnessing an advanced world with complex communities, racial and ethnic diversity, and societal barriers between species. Seven Gelfling clans were introduced in the first season, and more should show up in the second, along with a new uniting danger. We’ll be satisfied with the show’s continuation of its political metaphor.

According to Grillo-Marxuach, the Gelfling are ruled by a matriarchy because of their unique culture. The topic never gets old, and it never ceases to fascinate us. But more importantly, the crystal is the very soul of Thra, and the Skeksis are its masters. You’re witnessing the influence of the Gelfling’s view of the Skeksis as benevolent rulers on the Gelfling’s internal politics. Conflicts between the Gelfling, in light of their relationship with the Skeksis and the workings of that world, tend to be very dramatic, intense, and engaging. This is not to say that they are complicated in the way that the Trade Federation is complicated in Star Wars.

As a result, the Skeksis maintain power over the world in part by ensuring that the Gelfling do not fully trust one another. Season 1’s finale events set the stage for Season 2 to delve further into the Darkening. You have a system that has been insulted by the addition of the Skeksis, one of this show’s major ecological parables. According to Grillo-Marxuach, “The Skeksis are not of Thra. Perhaps they come from another galaxy, and we don’t know.”They’ve invaded our territory to wreak havoc on the system. While Deet initially internalizes the Darkening, it has spread throughout the biosphere.

She did what she had to do to win the war and take in as much as she could, but the Darkening is still mainly a result of this performance. There’s no doubt that the show will have plenty of material from which to draw. Even though it was a stand-alone episode, it opened up possibilities for future storylines. Emperor skekSo of the Skesis, voiced by Jason Isaacs, remarked, “There are millions of years to fill” (via SyFy).

The Gelflings Rian (Taron Egerton), Brea (Anya Taylor-Joy), and Deet (Nathalie Emmanuel) will all be back for the sequel. In addition, we’d love to see Natalie Dormer, Toby Jones, Theo James, Mark Strong, Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham-Carter, Harris Dickinson, Eddie Izzard, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Alicia Vikander reprise their roles as Gelflings.

There have been no announcements regarding who will return from the cast, but it’s safe to assume everyone wants to. “I feel like I’m not allowed to answer that,” Nathalie Emmanuel said when RadioTimes.com inquired about season two. “Although I can’t say for sure, I would return. It was a fantastic time.”Sure, Hannah John-Kamen said. We’d also love to see Simon Pegg, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Harvey Fierstein, Olafur Darri Lafsson, and Andy Samberg all return for another round of Skeksis & Mystics.

Perhaps Isaacs is the most dubious of the bunch because he doesn’t seem to have had a great time during the unconventional filming of the series (via SyFy).”It was a somewhat peculiar experience… I’ve never recorded after the animation was completed like we did on Dark Crystal. “That’s what Isaacs had to say. “This is a bizarre action to do. For what felt like an eternity, the world’s best puppeteers had been working on these enormous Hollywood sets to film the puppet scenes.” This may be the best-assembled ensemble if Netflix can keep this wild cast together and add to it for season two.
