Each episode of The Great Christmas Light Fight features several individuals or organizations, each with its magnificent Christmas light show. Producers select the contestants in advance. Use of lights, overall design, and Christmas spirit are the three criteria used to evaluate the displays.
After a detailed introduction to each exhibit, the judge(s) will thoroughly examine it. After evaluating all the contestants, the panel of judges will convene again to announce the winner and offer congratulations. After each show, the winner receives $50,000 and a seasonal trophy. The series featured a Halloween-themed episode on October 28, 2014, titled The Great Halloween Fright Fight. Like the usual Christmas episodes, the judges considered three factors: overall design, Halloween spirit, and inventiveness.
