The Lincoln Project Season 2 Cancelled or Renewed?

Showtime’s miniseries The Lincoln Project is what happens when your community project achieves overnight fame, and you begin scrambling to milk it for all it’s worth. The Lincoln Project is a political documentary centered around the activities of a political action committee, the titular ‘The Lincoln Project’. Founded by “some of the most NeverTrump Republicans”, The Lincoln Project was set up in late 2019 with the purpose of preventing the re-election of Donald Trump in the 2020 US Presidential election. The group used scathing posters and Twitter posts as weapons. Unexpectedly, the project made $80 million more in donations than it knew what to do with.

Naturally, this is when greed begins to set in. Attach several bags of money, and something that started good turns bad very quickly. After the fame The Lincoln Project achieved from successfully contributing to the removal of ‘babyman’ Donald Trump from office, the founders started getting ambitious. They began to make plans to become one of the largest pro-democratic media houses in America, and why not? They had the money and the fame to pull it off.

However, when you achieve fame by being “noble”, your plans tend not to go far when you then turn amoral. The Lincoln Project’s ambitious plans did not get very far before sexual scandals and accusations of embezzlement hit the committee. Unpaid executives and consultants began to reveal how core founders Steve Schmidt, John Weaver, Rick Wilson, and Reed Galen held all the decision-making power, and allegedly, most of the funds. Co-founder John Weaver was also accused of sending inappropriate messages to young male consultants, an allegation that tore the face of the committee apart.

Internal conflict also raged within the committee as founders Schmidt and Wilson fought Board Executives Ron Steslow and Mike Madrid for a position on the board. As if they didn’t have enough power already. The lack of diversity in the committee also began to dawn on everyone. Workers began to exit the group as they became victims of the things they were against. From this mess of internal upheaval, sexual harassment scandals, and negative press, a five-episode political documentary is created.

The Lincoln Project Production

The Lincoln Project is a documentary television series directed by Emmy-winning director, Karim Amer, and Academy Award-winning director, Fisher Stevens. The five-episode miniseries premiered on October 7, 2022, on Showtime, an American premium television network owned by Paramount Media Networks. The Lincoln Project is executive-produced by creators Karim Amer and Fisher Stevens, in conjunction with Geralyn White Dreyfocus, Lyn Davis Lea, Vijay Vaidyanathan, Jamie Wolf, Nina Fialkow, David Fialkow, and Vinnie Malhotra.

The Lincoln Project is a production of The Others, Bloomfish Productions, Impact Partners, and Showtime Documentary Films. The show is distributed by Fremantle, and the music is composed by Osei Essed. ‘Hate Crime Ginny Brown’ actress Amy Redford is a producer of the show. The Lincoln Project Season 1 takes us behind the scenes of the rise and fall of the committee, making use of its five hour-long episodes to detail the effective activities behind the group’s success, and the scandals that spelled its fall from grace.

The Lincoln Project Season 2 Release Date

The Lincoln Project has neither been canceled nor renewed for season 2. The five-part documentary just premiered on October 7, 2022, and three episodes have been released as of today. Considering The Lincoln Project was originally supposed to be a film, it is likely that the show will wrap up with only one season. Miniseries tend not to go further than their first season, and The Lincoln Project is not exactly a relevant political documentary in this era, neither is it a unique one.

A group of petty, power-hungry, and selfish men hiding behind the cover of ‘”saving democracy”, being culprits of everything they claim to be up against. That is not a consoling picture to paint in the minds of present-day Americans who need a lot of consolation indeed. Perhaps The Lincoln Project will change the political world, but so will the people behind the autocratic movement they are trying to fight. They think they are different, but will they truly make a difference that matters? A difference that is any less negative than that of their supposedly evil opponents?
