The Sandman Release Date, Cast, Plot and More

Since Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman hit comic stands 32 years ago, fans have demanded an adaptation. The Netflix series doesn’t just meet but outpaces the expectations that accompany such unavoidable anticipation, and Gaiman, Allan Heinberg, and David S. Goyer all contributed to it. This American fantasy drama is a modification of the “Preludes & Nocturnes” and “The Doll’s House” stories from the 1989-1996 graphic novel series.

‘The Sandman’ narrates the story of a divine entity named Dream, who- as the name suggests- controls and shapes people’s nightmares and fantasies. But when Dream is suddenly apprehended and held captive for decades, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream travels between worlds and timelines to fix the mistakes he has made, visiting old friends and foes along the way, and meeting new entities, both cosmic and human.

Produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television, the show is executive produced by Allan Heinberg (also the showrunner), David S. Goyer, Neil Gaiman, and Mike Barker, and produced by Samson Mücke, Iain Smith, Alexander Newman-Wise, and Andrew Cholerton. There has been nothing short of a meltdown among viewers due to this book-turned-TV show. With 69.5 million viewing hours in its first three days, it was the most-watched show in its week of release.

The Sandman Storyline

The Sandman follows Morpheus, the King of Dreams, who is a member of the family of the Endless. Consists of 7 siblings Death, Desire, Despair, Destiny, Delirium, Destruction, and Dream, each demonstrating the belief they represent. Like most families, the siblings don’t regularly get along or conform, but few of them have made alliances. One day Dream is captured by an insane occultist, who had intended to capture Death, Morpheus’s sibling. And subsequently, Earth is hurled into chaos.

Millions have become distressed with “the sleepy sickness” and merely never wake up from their sleep, while others are damned to sleepwalk, simply, through their lives. When Dream finally escapes from his jail, he realizes that the dreams and nightmares he earlier regulated are now persistent in the human realm. Now it’s up to him to fix the plight. In the process, he tangles with Lucifer, emperor of Hell, in addition to demon hunter Johanna Constantine. And thus, Dream must rebuild the world that had fallen apart in his absence.
