The Society Season 2 Renewed or Cancelled?

People are already infatuated with Netflix’s latest adolescent thriller The Society, which was released just a few weeks ago. Let’s talk about The Society Season 2.

The program combines elements of a teen drama like Riverdale with the interesting travails of a social experiment like Lord of the Flies. The Society was a contemporary story about a group of high school juniors and seniors who return home early after a canceled vacation to find the entire town deserted. As the kids acclimate to life on their own, with no cell service, internet, or way out of West Ham, new rules for living emerge, as power conflicts pit the pupils against one another.

Unfortunately, The Society Season 2 will probably not air. Here’s what you need to know.

Initially, sure. On July 9, 2019, Netflix renewed The Society for a second season. The Hollywood Reporter first reported that the series would return in 2020, although no specific date was given.   Netflix reconsidered its choice and canceled the series in August 2020.

On paper, it doesn’t make sense to cancel The Society. The program was well-liked by both fans and reviewers. Even with production issues, they hoped to begin filming in the fall of 2020. Sadly, the cancelation was forced by a single factor, that is, the coronavirus pandemic.

Series like The Society and I Am Not Okay With This (both of which were canceled) have more intricate sequencing than other Netflix shows. Having to juggle the calendars of a big, young cast while also spending on COVID exams and limitations would drastically raise The Society’s expenditure. When it came down to it, Netflix couldn’t afford a season of The Society.

If the show was to return, except for Rachel Keller, Seth Meriwether, and Chlo Levine, it would be expected that the most, if not all, of the cast would return. (These actors’ characters were killed off in Season 1.)

Gideon Adlon (Becca), Sean Berdy (Sam), Natasha Liu Bordizzo (Helena), Jacques Colimon (Will), Olivia DeJonge (Elle), Alex Fitzalan (Harry), Kristine Froseth (Kelly), José Julián (Gordie), Toby Wallace (Campbell), Jack Mulhern (Grizz), Spencer House (Clark), Emilio Garcia-Sanchez (Jason) (Lexie) would be anticipated.

Chris Keyser said, “Season one deals a lot with men versus women, and it deals only briefly with race, but I think you can expect that conversation about class and race to keep coming up. All these things need to be re-litigated in a world in which there are no givens. We hope, over time, and if we’re lucky enough to get a season two, to explore all the social contract questions that we take for granted.”

The stunning termination of The Society season 2 was blamed on the COVID-19 epidemic, according to Netflix.

“We’ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with second seasons of The Society and I Am Not Okay With This. We’re disappointed to have to make these decisions due to circumstances created by COVID, and we are grateful to these creators, including Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for I Am Not Okay With This; Chris Keyser, Marc Webb, and Pavlina Hatoupis for The Society; and all the writers, casts and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows for our members around the world.”

“New Ham under new leadership, [and] that’s not very stable because it’s a triumvirate of three people, none of who trust anyone else in that triumvirate. How that’s going to work and whether they will work together or will begin to undermine each other, we don’t know,” show creator Christopher Keyser said. “They’re going to need to begin to produce their own food. Food means agriculture and that’s uncertain. What stories might come out of a successful planting season or an unsuccessful planting season? We have not yet dealt with what happens when sickness or injury happens. There are all kinds of pressures that are going to be placed on a community like that that we haven’t explored yet.”

That’s all we know as for now, stay tuned!
