The Vow Season 2 Release Date, Cast, Plot, and More

The American show ‘The Vow’ is a must-watch for all true crime documentaries fans. In the first season of The Vow, released back in August 2020, the members of the so-called self-improvement group NXIVM were portrayed. The show was later renewed in October 2020 for season 2. In September 2020, in an interview with Variety Noujaim stated “We reached out to everybody involved — many people, on all sides of the story — and we are continuing to film”. On October 16, 2020, HBO renewed the series for a second season.

Directed by Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer, the show is also executive produced by Geralyn White Dreyfous, Mike Lerner, Nina Fialkow, Lyn Davis Lear, Regina K. Scully, Nancy Abraham, and Lisa Heller. The producers of the show are Victor Buhler, Rosadel Varela, Claire Read, Aleks Gezentsvey, Sara Rodriguez, and Christina D. King, in association with HBO Documentary Films and The Othrs.

‘The Vow’ follows a range of people who joined the self-improvement group, NXIVM. The organization has been under siege, with various charges including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy brought against its highest members, most notably founder Keith Raniere, who was convicted in June 2019 and is currently awaiting sentencing.

The series takes a deep, nuanced look at the experiences of a number of people deeply involved in NXIVM over the course of several years. The show helped expose the sex cult subgroup, a division called DOS (“Dominus Obsequious Sororium”), that involved female NXIVM members being physically branded with Raniere’s initials, brainwashed, and forced into sexual slavery, among other abusive conditions.

This season picks up from where the first left off, offering viewers another insight into what transpired behind closed doors at the NXIVM cult and giving viewers evidence from Keith Raniere’s trial of his sickening crimes. Additionally, Nancy Salzman talks about her role at NXIVM and how she came to build a company that had so many problems at its core. Exclusive interviews with Keith Raniere from prison are also included.

As supporters and defectors face off with federal prosecutors and defense attorneys, and the sentencing of Clare Bronfman will be taped for the second season, this series will take a closer look inside Raniere’s inner circle and ongoing supporters. The second season will also explore leadership in the United States and Mexico.

The official synopsis from HBO states: “It follows the legal and emotional journeys of the group’s founders, supporters, and defectors as new evidence and stunning revelations come to light, while federal prosecutors and defense attorneys engage in a trial in the national spotlight.

Five years after Keith Raniere’s arrest in Mexico, amid rumors of a secret sex sorority within his self-help company NXIVM, The Vow season 2 reveals the manifold ways that Raniere and a trusted inner circle of acolytes conspired to induct women into a female-only sect called DOS, a name derived from a Latin acronym meaning ‘Master of Obedient Women’.

In it we see women speaking about their horrifying experiences within the cult and Nancy Salzman talking about how much her life has changed since Keith’s arrest “My whole company was destroyed and my whole life fell apart”. While others wonder whether Nancy really is a changed woman, or whether she is turning against the cult with the aim of protecting herself. “I wonder if she is really waking up, or if she is merely trying to save herself…?”, Nancy wonders where the women are that the cult allegedly helped.
