Created by American television producer and screenwriter Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Irish screenwriter, animator, and musician Declan de Barra, The Witcher: Blood Origin is an upcoming fantasy action-adventure drama series. The series is based on The Witcher book series, which is written by author Andrzej Sapkowski.
The series follows events that are set 1200 years before The Witcher. This one will feature the creation of the first Witcher followed by the events resulting in the Conjunction of the Spheres. It will also feature an ancient Elven civilization before its end. Barra and Hissrich are also the executive producer of the series alongside Sean Daniel, Tomasz Bagiński, Matt O’Toole, Jason Brown, and Jarosław Sawko.
The makers featured the stars of the characters of the series including Michelle Yeoh, Lenny Henry, Nathaniel Curtis, Sophia Brown, Dylan Moran, Laurence O’Fuarain, and Mirren Mack.

The Witcher Blood Origin Release Date
Netflix greenlit the show in July 2020 and it was confirmed to be a six-part miniseries prequel to the TV adaptation of novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. Declan de Barra was confirmed to be the showrunner and the casting of Jodie Turner-Smith was confirmed in January last year. Laurence O’Fuarain was the next to join the show, but Turner-Smith quit in April because of scheduling issues. Michelle Yeoh then replaced Turner-Smith.
Filming for the series started in the United Kingdom in August 2021. After finishing filming, De Bara announced that in November 2021 they had gone into post-production. The makers have officially confirmed that the series will be debuted on December 25, 2022, with four episodes.

The Witcher Blood Origin serves as a prequel to The Witcher and the events happen before everything mentioned in the books or the Netflix show. According to the streaming platform’s description, we will see the Continent’s history, which will be 1200 years before everything that happened in The Witcher.
The show will explore the creation of the prototype Witcher and the things leading to the Conjunction of the Spheres, where monsters, men, and elves were brought into one single world. Andrzej Sapkowski has been hired as the creative consultant and Lauren S. Hissrich is the show’s executive producer. Michelle Yeoh has been cast as Scian who is a member of the elves followed by Sir Lenny Henry as Chief Druid Balor.
