Hollywood has been eager to investigate the concept of parallel universes with recent blockbusters like Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and A24’s Everything Everywhere All At Once. With the release of “To Every You I’ve Loved Before” and “To Me, the One Who Loved You,” two films produced by Bakken Record and TMS Entertainment, respectively, the anime industry may soon have a competitor in the genre.

Tokyo Movie Show, or TMS Entertainment also, to introduce newer anime like Dr. Stone, ReLIFE, and Rent-A-Girlfriend. Shinsha is well-known for its contributions to such classics as Detective Conan, Fruits Basket, Lupin the Third, D. Gray-Man, and Magic Knight Rayearth.

On October 7, both movies will open in theaters across Japan for the first time. There has been no word on when the movie will be shown in other countries. Both films benefit from being seen together, but they may be enjoyed independently as well. Both are based on novels by Japanese author Otono Yomoji, who released a science fiction romance on the same day (June 23, 2016) as the first of both films. Two boys, both named Koyomi Takasaki, meet, and fall in love with girls, but they live in different universes.

After his parent’s divorce, Koyomi Takasaki moves in with his mom in “To Every you I’ve Loved Before.” Kazune Takagawa, a classmate of his from the preparatory college where they both studied, approaches him one day and reveals that she is from World Line 85, where she and Koyomi are in a romantic relationship.

To Me, The One Who Loved You’s Koyomi Takasaki also has divorced parents, but he lives with his dad. At his father’s research facility, he meets and falls in love with a girl named Shiori Satou. To make matters worse, their parents fall in love and intend to wed. Next, Koyomi and Shiori resolve to visit another universe in which they are not stepsiblings.

The premise, according to the movie’s official summary, follows the lives of two wonderfully flawed protagonists. This anime takes place in a universe where dimension hopping is possible. Koyomi, then, is a young woman with lofty aspirations. She now lives with her mother after her parent’s divorce. When she moves in with her mom, she enrolls at a nearby high school.

This is the first time she’s ever met Kazune Takigawa. And then they both found out that Koyomi had traveled from the 85th dimension to see his earth. But in the parallel universe, these two were a couple. As the same people explore various realities in search of a more satisfying life, the mystery and drama around them only deepen.
