Created for Netflix by Miles Millar, Alfred Gough, and Tim Burton, Wednesday is an American comedy horror coming-of-age supernatural television series based on a fictional family The Addams Family created by American cartoonist Charles Addams. Millar, Gough, and Burton are also the series’ executive producers along with Andrew Mittman, Kayla Alpert, Tommy Harper, Kevin Miserocchi, Steve Stark, Gail Berman, Jonathan Glickman, and Kevin Lafferty, and Carmen Pepelea as the producer.

The makers have featured some well-known faces for the series characters, including Jenna Ortega, Riki Lindhome, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Georgie Farmer, Christina Ricci, Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Joy Sunday, Naomi J. Ogawa, and Moosa Mostafa.

Wednesday was released on Netflix on November 16, 2022, with decent feedback from critics, with Ortega’s performance being praised. It was eventually the second-most watched English-language Netflix show in only three weeks. The series has been the recipient of two Golden Globe nominations. The makers have not renewed the series for a second season yet, there is no news regarding the second season of Wednesday.

Burton has been a part of The Addams Family film, which never entered production. He was reported to be the director of a TV show in 2020 and Netflix eventually gave him a series order. Jenna Ortega was chosen to play a character of Latina heritage and Ricci, who played the lead role in the original film and the sequel, was brought in to portray a supporting role. Filming began in September last year and concluded in March 2022.

The first season of the series follows Wednesday Addams is thrown out of school after she dumps live piranhas in the school pool as revenge against the boys’ water polo team, who bullied her brother Pugsley. The lead character’s parents sent her to a high school, Nevermore Academy, where they were former students. Most of the students are outcasts, and Wednesday’s different personality makes it hard for her to become friends with her schoolmates. She soon understands that she has psychic abilities like her mother and gets involved in solving a local murder mystery.
