We still think about some of the most sensational dramas of 2021 constantly. And the first name that pops up in our head instantly is the Emmy-nominated viral show, Yellowjackets. This show explores the lives of a girl soccer team while stranded after a plane crash, and their lives 25 years later. In December 2021, the show was renewed for a second season while the first season was still going on. The show got more and more popular and the audience kept increasing. This resulted in it being Showtime’s second-most-watched show in the network’s history.

I can’t wait to see the surprises they have in store for us in season two.”
Showrunners Jonathan Lisco, Ashley Lyle, and Bart Nickerson also released a statement about season 2: “We are beyond grateful for the incredible support we’ve received for this show — both from Gary Levine, Jana Winograde, David Nevins, Amy Israel, Dave Binegar, and the rest of the fantastic Showtime team, and from our growing team of ‘Citizen Detectives’ at home. We can’t wait to continue telling this story with our amazing cast and crew. The saga continues!”
Yellowjackets Season 2 Release Date
The release date for the second season of ‘Yellowjackets’ has not yet been announced. The filming for it already began in August 2022, and the creators are expecting the new season to be ready by the first half of 2023. Lyle told The Wrap, “We are on a very similar production track in terms of time as we were last season, although, of course, we have to shoot an additional episode because we had already shot the pilot the last time. I believe that we are going to finish shooting in about February and we’ll be airing sometime shortly after that”.
Yellowjackets Season 2 Cast
The whole cast of season 1 is expected to come back for the new season. The adult cast includes Melanie Lynskey as Shauna, Tawny Cypress as Taissa, Juliette Lewis as Natalie, Christina Ricci as Misty, and Warren Kole as Jeff. On 11th August, Showtime announced that Lauren Ambrose joined the cast of season 2 as adult Van.
The teenage cast consists of Sophie Nélisse as Shauna, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Taissa, Sophie Thatcher as Natalie, Samantha Hanratty as Samantha, Liv Hewson as Van, Courtney Eaton as Lottie, Steven Krueger as Ben, Kevin Alves as Travis, Keeya King as Akilah, and Alexa Barajas as Mari. According to Deadline, Courtney and Kevin have been upped to series regulars for season 2.
On August 19, Showtime revealed that Elijah Wood is joining the cast in a “season-long guest arc”, to play Walter, a dedicated citizen detective who will challenge Misty in unexpected and surprising new directions. We will also be seeing the Malaysian actress Nuha Jes Izman, who has joined the cast as a recurring guest star in season 2.
She will play Crystal, “a member of the JV squad and a hard-core theater enthusiast who makes the dubious decision to bond with Misty”, according to Deadline. Disney+ series star “Obi-Wan Kenobi” Simone Kessell will also join the show as the present-day Lottie, giving further acceptance to assumptions that she may be associated with the group that abducted Natalie in the finale.
Yellowjackets Season 2 Plot
“Yellowjackets” takes place on two timelines. In 1996, the members of a girls’ soccer team (the nominal Yellowjackets) struggled to survive after their plane crashed in the faraway jungle en route to a championship. In the present time, few of those characters still endure the agony of their past, including what they did to survive in the year and a half they were abandoned.
Although the creators did not wish to reveal many details about the new season in order to build more excitement, they did mention that the truth about Shauna’s baby, which existed only in the 1996 timeline, will finally be disclosed. Showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson told Variety: “We’ve been calling Season 2, ‘The Winter of Their Discontent.’ They also confirmed that the second season will revolve a lot around the past and present-day Lottie. It will be shown why she is a threat as a teen and adult, which will probably make her the most intriguing character to watch in the upcoming season considering the fact that we have no idea as to what extent she can go!
A significant theme of the previous season of ‘Yellowjackets’ was the sins of the past being unforgettable and haunting in the future. This idea will apparently persist in Yellowjackets Season 2. In an interview with E!, Ashley Lyle said that the characters will face “A more direct reckoning with the past moving forward.” Bart Nickerson added that director Karyn Kusama pitched that the subtitle could be “Yellowjackets: An American War Story”. In a Hollywood Reporter interview, Lyle also mentioned how seemingly dark the show gets in Season 2 and the possible dynamic change when other survivors return.
