Dark creators Baran Bo Odar and Jantje Friese are bringing a brand new series 1899, to the streaming service platform Netflix. It is a German epic period supernatural horror mystery drama television series. Baran Bo Odar and Jantje Friese are also the executive producers of the series. The series follows a few European migrants who live on a steamship in London for a beginning in New York City. However, while encountering another migrant ship on the open sea, the journey takes a worse turn.
The creators hired stars for the characters of the series including Emily Beecham in the lead role on December 16, 2020. Andreas Pietschmann, Maciej Musiał, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Clara Rosager, Yann Gael, José Pimentão, Gabby Wong, Fflyn Edwards, Aneurin Barnard, Miguel Bernardeau, Anton Lesser, Rosalie Craig, Maria Erwolter, Mathilde Ollivier, Isabella Wei, Jonas Bloquet, and Alexandre Willaume joined the cast on May 2, 2021.
Dark creators Jantje Friese and Baran Bo Odar revealed in 2018 that they would create another project on Netflix. The show was confirmed at a Netflix press conference and Bo Odar disclosed on Instagram in 2020 that Friese finished the script for the pilot episode. While speaking to Deadline Hollywood, Friese stated how the European migrant crisis and Brexit affected the show.

1899 Release Date
The show’s pre-production started in 2020 with a test shoot and principal photography was scheduled to begin in February 2021. Filming started in May last year at Studio Babelsberg and a studio called Volume, owned by Odar and Friese’s company Dark Bay.
Filming continued in London, the United Kingdom with creative studio Framestore taking charge of the visual effects. Filming concluded in November last year and Bo Odar confirmed the same on social media.
On September 12, 2022, the series had a two-episode premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival. The series will be premiered on November 17, 2022, with its first episodes, which are written by Jantje Friese, and “The Ship” is the title.
1899 Storyline
Produced by Dark Ways, the plot of 1899 revolves around some migrants leaving London and opting for a beginning in another city. They all have their secrets, but during their journey, they find a migrant ship that was reported missing a long time ago. They enter and find something on board that might affect their lives and the secrets start to get revealed.
Certain other things will help in making the show successful. The leads are international stars and they would be speaking in their native language throughout the show. It must be noted that the developers are none other than the masterminds behind Dark, which was one of the most successful shows on Netflix.
