Alita: Battle Angel has been a complete story. In the first film, Alita loses her lover Hugo. Still, she understands herself and her natural place in the world, aiming to become a Motorball champion and attempt to get back to Zalem and its leader Nova. There was also a scene of Motorball that did not make it to the final version, and producer Jon Landau said in an interview with CinemaBlend that there was a training sequence they shot in an alley where Hugo is teaching Alita how to do the street Motorball.

Rodriguez and Cameron wanted the movie to be a complete arc, and Rodriguez mentioned that she knows who she is and now has a target, but the story has already been concluded. However, there have been a few mysteries about Alita’s life, and according to Cameron, her past has yet to be revealed in the manga. Cameron said they plan to feature the past, but it would be wrong to make a sequel with such a story once they have confirmation.

However, the things that might be explored in the sequel start with the events that happened to Alita between The Fall and how she landed in the Iron City junk heap. There are two other things, including the story of Zalem surviving The Fall and the intentions of the enigmatic Nova. However, a confirmation from the makers would decide what would happen in the sequel.
