Created by Charlie Brooker, Black Mirror is a British anthology of Dystopia Speculative and Science Fiction television series. The normal episodes are always about different genres, but most of them are made against the backdrop of future dystopias with science fiction. The show is inspired by The Twilight Zone and uses technology to explore more social problems. Brooker has written a few episodes and executive producer Annabel Jones has also played an important role.

All five seasons consist of 22 episodes followed by a special along with a film titled Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. Seasons 1 and 2 were released on Channel 4 in 2011 and 2013 and the special was aired in 2014. The show shifted to Netflix and the rest of the three seasons were released between 2016 to 2019 and a sixth series was confirmed in July this year. Netflix also released two webisode series and a book related to the first four seasons. Soundtracks from the seasons have been released as separate albums.

The series received a positive response from fans and critics and also the series was considered one of the best television series of that time. The show was a recipient of the Primetime Emmy Award thrice in the category of Outstanding Television Movie, along with San Junipero, USS Callister, and Bandersnatch.

The first Season of Black Mirror debuted on Channel 4 on December 4, 2011, with three episodes that concluded on December 18, 2011. The second season also aired on Channel 4 on February 11, 2013, and concluded on February 25, 2013, with 3 episodes and one special episode released on December 16, 2014. The distributor of the series moved Channel 4 to Netflix, where the third season of the series debuted on October 21, 2016, with 6 episodes.

The fourth season also aired on Netflix on December 29, 2017. They also released a film that is also based on the series and released it on December 28, 2018. With 3 episodes, the fifth season of the series was released on June 5, 2019. Netflix has already renewed the series for a sixth season, but the release date is yet to be announced. It should be released by 2023.

Since it is an anthology show, we cannot say anything about the plot. The new season is currently in the pre-production stage and the show does not have similar elements that would be seen in every season. Brooker’s Black Mirror tells the stories where societies that are destroyed following the increase in the impact of technology in our lives, and the new season will surely explore this concept.

In case you remember everything, you know well that Brooker did not begin writing for Season 6 immediately since humans were already too depressed and a new Black Mirror cannot help anyone. Speaking to Radio Times, he said that he doesn’t know anything about the stories of societies falling apart and so he is not working on any one of them. He is eager to revisit his comic skill set, and so he has been writing scripts aimed at making himself laugh.

As of September 2022, the creators have not confirmed the stars who will be playing the roles of the characters in the new season. But we can expect to see I May Destroy You’s Paapa Essiedu, Annie Murphy, Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, Salma Hayek Atlanta’s Zazie Beetz, Kate Mara, Anjana Vasa, Clara Rugaard, Josh Hartnett, Danny Ramirez, Auden Thornton, and many more are yet to be confirmed officially.
