Dragon Ball Super takes place four years after the defeat of Majin Buu. But the God of Destruction Beerus appears after so many decades. Beerus approaches Super Saiyan God and asks for a fight. Goku was living peacefully as a farmer until he heard about all this. With the help of these friends, Goku transforms into Super Saiyan God to fight against Beerus. But he ends up losing.

Goku starts training along with Vegeta. The remaining Frieza army collects Dragon Balls and succeeds in bringing Frieza back to Earth. But Frieza ends up getting defeated by Goku and Vegeta.

Beerus has a brother named Champa who convinces Beerus to conduct a tournament between the best fighters from their universes and give Super Dragon Balls as a reward to the winner.

Goku and his friends join the tournament. However, Goku forfeited the match after being unable to win against Hit. The rest of the series shows the various levels of the Tournament of Power.

The finale begins with Jiren gaining more power and attacking both Frieza and Android 17. But Frieza and Android 17 manage to get Jiren with a surprise attack. Goku steps in to help, apologizing that he’s taken so long. 

Goku then says that he and Frieza will attack, and Android 17 should stay in the backup. He also ensures Frieza that he won’t go back on their agreement as long as Frieza cooperates. Frieza also explains that he’s grateful for it. Frieza and Goku then attack Jiren together. The two manage to land several blows until Goku somehow attains a new form known as Ultra Instinct and throws Frieza at Jiren. But Goku and Frieza get eliminated, and Android 17 is the winner of universe 7.

Android 17 becomes the tournament winner. As his reward, he asks to restore the Multiverse, which got erased by eliminating each Universe’s team from the competition. He was more concerned about protecting nature than anything. The Grand Priest grants his wish. Every Universe has been brought back to its place of origin successfully. The Grand Priest also revealed that if the winners weren’t virtuous, they would have erased everything.

Goku, Vegeta, and Saiyan warriors became friends earlier. This made Jiren from Pride Trooper agree to have a friendly rematch against Goku after he returns to his home planet. This finale also softened Frieza’s character, which made him one of the most loved characters by the fans of this series.

Everyone has returned to their lives after the Tournament of Power. Frieza celebrated him being alive again. Android 17 goes on a cruise around the world. Vegeta and Goku bond by promising that the two of them will get “stronger and stronger.”

The finale of the Dragon Ball Super was incredibly heart-warming. The character development in the series was also highly appreciated.

Season 1 of the series had 131 episodes and aired for three years. Animator Florence Jay Dominguito revealed that he is looking forward to the possibility of a release in the coming future. He also dropped a hint of possibility for Dragon Ball Super Season 2. However, the new Dragon Ball Super Movie is expected to release in 2022, so it is unlikely that Dragon Ball Super Season 2 will be released anytime soon.
