The upcoming series One Piece is a live-action adaption of the ongoing 1997 Japanese manga series of the same name, which is written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It is an action-adventure fantasy comedy-drama television series. Oda is also the executive producer of the series, along with Becky Clements, Steven Maeda, Marty Adelstein, and Matt Owens. The show follows Monkey D. Luffy and his team, the Straw Hat Pirates. They search the oceans for a treasure called One Piece, which will make Luffy the King of the Pirates. Filming for the series took place in South Africa at Cape Town Film Studios and Cape Town.

The cast members of the series playing the Straw Hat Pirates were revealed in a lineup of wanted posters in November last year. They include Emily Rudd, Inaki Godoy, Taz Skylar, Mackenyu, and Jacob Romero Gibson.

Netflix again add cast members in March 2022, including Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Jeff Ward, Vincent Regan, Morgan Davies, Peter Gadiot, Aidan Scott, and McKinley Belcher III. In June of this year, Celeste Loots, Langley Kirkwood, Craig Fairbrass, Chioma Umeala, Alexander Maniatis, and many more stars joined the series.

The makers have confirmed that filming for the series has been started from January 31, 2022, to August 22, 2022. Marc Jobst announced on May 8, 2022, that he had completed filming the first two episodes of the series, and the rest of the episodes are under production. The release date of this brand-new series, One Piece has not been confirmed yet. Since the series has completed its filming, so, we can expect that the series will be released in late 2022 or 2023.

Odo disclosed in January 2020 that Netflix ordered one season with ten episodes. While speaking to Syfy Wire the same year, producer Marty Adelstein stated that the show’s shooting was all set to start in Cape Town in August this year but was delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. He stated that ten scripts were written for the show and the casting was scheduled to start in June. Production started the following year under the name Project Roger and the logo for the show was revealed in September 2021.

Marc Jobst was brought in to helm the pilot episode in September 2021 and Arisu Kashiwagi was said to be the creative director and designer in February this year. Casting announcements started the following month and Matt Owens was confirmed to be co-showrunner with Steven Maeda. Bianca Oosthuizen unveiled that Emma Sullivan also helmed one of the episodes.

The show’s plot is set in the backdrop of an alternate version of Earth, and it is currently in between the Golden Age of Pirates. Dangerous pirates have taken over the sea, and a few of them have also embarked to find the treasure, One Piece.

Following the death of pirate Gol D. Roger, a young boy, Monkey D. Luffy, decides to raise his crew, search for the treasure, and name himself the Pirate King. Luffy eats a devil fruit that grants him powers similar to rubber along with a lot of strength and agility. Luffy comes of age at one point and sails from Foosha Village in East Blue, going on another adventure to become the Pirate King.
