The 1619 Project Season 1 is a six-part Onyx Collective/Hulu series directed by Hannah-Jones and produced by Oprah Winfrey executive. The 1619 Project Season 1 Plot
The backgrounds of the story starts from August 2019, from where the 1619 Project was established to mark the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in the British colony of Virginia. A party of “twenty and odd” captive Africans arrived in Virginia Colony in 1619. White Lion, an English privateer operating under a Dutch letter of marque, landed in Point Comfort in the English colony of Virginia with 20-30 Africans caught in joint African-Portuguese raids against the Kingdom of Ndongo in modern-day Angola. Although the initiative situates this time in the context of slavery in the United States’ colonial history, others have objected.
The first enslaved Africans were taken to North America in 1526, while European enslavement of Native Americans dates back to Columbus’ voyage in 1493-94. (There is also evidence of free Africans from Spain among Columbus’ crew).
So, to summarise it the narrative of the 1619 project focuses on the history of Black people and their lives since they were taken to the United States as slaves. Hannah Jones responded to the claim that the Play is an account of America by saying that it is impossible to tell and comprehend the story of America without include black people. The 1619 Project Season 1 Cast
Hannah Jones will serve as the series’ narrator because she created both the series and the documentary. She will co-executive produce the show with Roger Ross Williams and Caitlin Roper, the editor of the New York Times magazine and the 1619 Project. Executive producers will include Oprah Winfrey, Kathleen Lingo, and the New York Times editorial director.
