The Midnight Gospel Season 2 – Everything We Know So Far

Because of its distinct perspective and suspenseful finale, fans are eager to discover what’s next for Clancy. Can we expect to watch The Midnight Gospel Season 2 anytime soon?

Clancy Gilroy, a spacecaster in the Chromatic Ribbon universe, operates an unauthorized multiverse simulation. He uses it to go around strange realms on the verge of doom, interviewing several of their inhabitants for his space cast.

Pendleton Ward has taken animated film fans on their most exciting voyage ever. In Netflix’s interesting production, Clancy, a young spacecaster, meets extra-dimensional aliens while their universes crumble around him in a hallucinatory catastrophe.

While the graphics bombard your eyes with a plethora of bizarre things, the conversations themselves are significantly more tranquil. Each talk is taken directly from comedian Duncan Trussell’s real-life podcast and tackles philosophy and the purpose of life with strange and yet exquisite simplicity.

While the emphasis of each installment is primarily determined by the podcast discussions on which it is centered, The Midnight Gospel’s first year also includes several overarching plots that resulted in what may have been Clancy’s demise.

After the cops fire a pistol at Clancy in the season finale, he falls into the simulation and awakens in a new universe alongside all of the prior space cast attendees who perished. After he inquired if he was dead too, they just said, “Just be here now.

Whether Clancy survives season one, a second season of The Midnight Gospel might accompany him into the afterlife with new talks about the nature of existence itself.

When asked what occurred at the end of season one, Trussell delivered a lengthy, comprehensive response in the fashion of his podcasts. Here’s a quick snippet that appears to be most pertinent to the show:

“So to me, when it comes to the idea of beings living inside of a simulator or simulation theory itself, what I love about it is it invites us to ask the question: Are we real? Are we alive? Is this actually happening? And if it is, how do we know for sure? And so that’s my ambiguous answer to your question.”

The Midnight Gospel has not yet been renewed by Netflix, but the feedback has been tremendously favorable, so expect to see more of Clancy in the near future.

Season one of The Midnight Gospel debuted on 4/20, which was a wise choice considering how bizarre this program is (even if it only makes sense in the US calendar), so don’t be shocked if season two arrives on the same day in 2022. But first, we need to get the all-important green light.

“[Netflix is] super excited about the reception it’s getting. Midnight Gospel is… I don’t think it’s like any other show,” Trussell said.

“And, you know, Netflix is Netflix. They’re like, We don’t know about Season 2 yet either way, and they’re masters of not indicating anything one way or the other. And I get it because if they kind of hint to you that there’s gonna be another season, then that’s gonna trigger a whole bunch of shit. But then, on the other hand, they indicate that maybe they’re not. They’re just really good at maintaining a kind of neutrality regarding it.

“But there’s so much more in that world, and we just barely scratched the surface of it, so I would love to make a million more episodes of Midnight Gospel because we only covered the very, very basic world, and we didn’t really get into some of the other stuff that’s going on in the Ribbon, which to me is really, really exciting. I just really want to tell that story.”

Russell is feeling jittery, but positive too.

“Obviously, there’s a writhing part of me that is deeply in suspense, waiting for a decision to be made, one way or the other, and if I said that wasn’t there, everybody would know I was a horrible liar,” he said.

“But that being said, they let us make this crazy thing! To me, it’s just the wildest thing to imagine that any network would let me and Pendleton roll with this wild idea – and now, it’s living on Netflix forever.”

“That’s glorious. But if you have any kind of magical powers, or even better, some connection to Netflix, give us a second season! Please, I want to make more,” he said.

“There are so many more stories to tell about The Chromatic Ribbon. You know, we mapped out that world, and we barely, barely got into that world. But nothing you’re seeing in that show – not a single word, not a single moment – was unintentional. It all connects to really big history, and a very deep story.”

The entire business is hurting right now, but the animation is simpler to work on remotely, and Duncan Trussell has already recorded dozens of podcast episodes to take cues from, so Netflix, put Duncan (and us) out of our agony!
