Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’s epistolary novel Les Liaisons dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons) (1782) has yet another adaptation, and it’s the much-awaited ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ tv series! This period drama is all set to premiere, following the announcement of its trailer and release date. The show narrates the tale of two ex-lovers, Merteuil and Valmont, in a new way. It explores how they began as young lovers in the slums of Paris and rose to the heights of French aristocracy through a succession of schemes, manipulations, and betrayals.
“Dangerous Liaisons has received a number of film adaptations over the years, including a 1988 movie of the same name starring Glenn Close and John Malkovich that ultimately nabbed three Academy Awards. The book then got a youthful, modern adaptation with 1999’s Cruel Intentions, as Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe played the leads as wealthy, NYC teens.”
Created by Harriet Warner, who is also the writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Colin Callender, Tony Krantz, Bethan Jones, Scott Huff, and Christopher Hampton comprise the other executive producers. The show is produced by Barney Reisz in association with Lionsgate Television, Playground Entertainment, and Flame Ventures.

Dangerous Liaisons Plot
The show is an undaunted prelude to Laclos’ classic 18th-century novel, and its main plot revolves around the lives of his quintessential characters. the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont, when they met as young passionate lovers on the night of the French Revolution. Taking audiences through a pre-revolutionary Paris, this contemporary interpretation of a classic story will bring wonder and dread, elegance and depravity, and enchantment and trickery to the viewers. Certain to mend the wrongs of their past, the young couple relies on their seductive and manipulative skills not only on the French nobility but also on each other.
Englert’s character Camille is a very charming young woman from nowhere with a mysterious past who wants revenge on the wealthy aristocrats who failed her and made her miserable. In the wake of her lover’s betrayal, she uses her heartbreak as motivation and empowerment to build a position of power, status, and freedom for herself. On the other hand, Valmont will go to any extremes to regain the title that was unwillingly taken away from him.

The official trailer of the upcoming show was released on September 28, 2022. In the trailer that was released, the premium cabler showcased the nostalgic literary lovers, the Marquise de Merteuil (played by Alice Englert) and the Vicomte de Valmont (played by Nicholas Denton). This story will reveal exactly how Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont became lovers—before they begin to destroy each other.
“Travel back to 1700s Paris to see how Merteuil and Valmont came to be in this bold prelude to this classic story that oscillates between love and war,” the logline teases.

In an official press release, Star informed the fans regarding the streaming platform for the show.
“New episodes will be available weekly on Sundays at midnight on the STARZ app, all STARZ streaming, and on-demand platforms, and internationally on the STARZPLAY premium streaming platform across its complete footprint in Europe, Latin America, and Japan. On linear, it will debut on STARZ at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on November 6th in the U.S. and Canada. Subsequent episodes will air linearly on Sundays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT in the U.S. and Canada, beginning November 13.”
