Picture this: high school reunion, a sudden death, and everyone stands suspect. That’s what happens on The Afterparty. A good old murder mystery with a fresh point of view, and the creativity of Phil Lord and Chris Miller- what more could you ask for?
This spicy comedy murder mystery is an American television series set to premiere on Apple TV+. The series takes place at, as already mentioned, a high school reunion afterparty, and every episode reveals the insights and stories of every suspect present there, providing varying perspectives of the same night.
It is an 8 episode straight to series order. Here’s everything we know about the show!
About The Afterparty
With a quick surge in interest when it comes to a murder mystery, the show’s release timing is spot on. The Afterparty was supposed to come out in 2013 at Sony, but it never saw the screens. Years later, it has been updated, modified, and reworked into an 8 episode series that tackles the point of view of every suspect of murder.
The story revolves around the murder of Xavier, a thirtysomething rockstar found dead by his beachside mansion at his 15-year high school reunion.
Danner, a detective at the reunion realizes that the true culprit would probably be someone around them at that point in time. She sets about viewing people’s “mind movies” (translation: statements). She gets a bag of popcorn and sets out to catch the culprit.
When Can We Finally Watch The Afterparty?
The Afterparty release date is January 28, 2022, and it will premiere on Apple TV+. Apple TV will, as usual, follow its age old strategy- the first three episodes will be out on January 28, 2022, and then, the episodes will be released on a week by week basis. Speaking of, here’s a list of all 8 episodes!

The Afterparty Production Information
Production companies slated include Sony Pictures Television and TriStar Television. The development of this show was such that in 2013, Phil and Miller worked on The reunion, a high school reunion comedy. It was to be produced by Lord, Miller (under their Lord Miller banner), Jonathan Kadin, and Hannah Minghella, and written and directed solely by Miller.
Even while promoting The Logo Movie, they were still passionate about The Reunion.
On 24 June 2020, it was announced that Apple TV+ had given the production a chance- an 8 straight to series order. Miller is not only the director but also the showrunner.
The filming was confirmed via an Instagram post on November 11, 2020. On February 17, Miller confirmed that the filming was complete and ready for release.
That being said, it looks like this series is a fresh take on the traditionally playing murder mysteries with a tinge of humour and switching eyes and perceptions, and we’re so ready! Remember, 28 January 2022- Apple TV+!
