Alaska Daily Release Date, Plot, Cast, and Many More!

ABC is entering the competitive crime drama genre with its new show Alaska Daily. It’s going to be about a discredited journalist who investigates missing and killed indigenous women in a small community in Alaska, revealing a persistent and unresolved threat of violence.

Although the show is based on fiction, great care was taken to include real-life events and connect them to the community it portrays. Several members of the real-life Anchorage Daily News newspaper (the inspiration for the “Alaska Daily”) even joined the show’s production as executive producers and writers.

Alaska Daily makes a concerted attempt to have a firm foothold in Anchorage for continuity and the tales it will tell. The disappearance of indigenous women will play a central role in the upcoming crime drama. While the victims themselves are made up, the real-life tragedies that inspired the stories are not.

Most incidents of missing and murdered women in the United States and Canada involve indigenous women, and this presentation sheds light on the plethora of true crime stories involving this group. While this isn’t a common topic in Hollywood, it hits home for the people of the Alaskan (and surrounding Canadian) towns depicted.

Hilary Swank plays New York journalist Eileen Fitzgerald, who has fallen from favor. A desire for a “new beginning” led her away from New York City to Anchorage, Alaska. While she is there, she finds work at a local daily newspaper for the metro area. In the pilot episode, Eileen Fitzgerald is fascinated by a cold case. She looks into the circumstances behind the death of a woman kidnapped when she was a teen. While Fitzgerald is in Anchorage, she learns that this isn’t confined to the original cold case. There has been a disturbing increase in the number of women reported missing with no leads.

In the teaser, we see Fitzgerald making the connection that they are mostly indigenous women from the missing posters she has pinned to her wall. The preview demonstrates Eileen’s dedication to the investigation alongside community members, from her newspaper coworkers and law enforcement to members of the indigenous population in Anchorage. Her investigation is motivated by a desire to restore her ruined career and a need to find closure for the mounting number of disturbing situations.

It would appear that Alaska Daily draws from both historical and contemporary musical sources. Like Eileen Fitzgerald, Hilary Swank displays a doggedness reminiscent of Erin Brockovich’s portrayal from the 2000s. Her chemistry with her companion is on par with what we see in True Detective on HBO or Under the Banner of Heaven on Hulu.
