Cars on the Road Release Date, Plot, Cast, and Many More!

To be released on Disney+, Pixar’s Cars on the Road is a computer-animated spinoff series based on the Cars film series. The first Cars movie followed Lightning McQueen as he competed for the Piston Cup against The King and Chick Hicks. He gets lost and winds up in Radiator Springs, where he meets and makes friends with Sally, Doc Hudson, and Mater. He feels at home in Radiator Springs and is sad to go when the time comes.

Success has spawned not one, not two, but three Cars films, plus two spinoffs: Aircraft for the Fire and Rescue Services. Steve Purcell, Bobby Podesta, and Brian Fee, who worked on the previous Cars films, return to direct the third season in the series, Cars on the Road.

As a producer, Marc Sondheimer has experience with numerous Pixar films, including the Oscar-winning Coco. Jake Monaco, who scored Flora & Ulysses and The Stinky & Dirty Show, is responsible for the music in this series as well. Nine episodes follow Lightning McQueen and Mater, the main characters from the 2006 film.

The show is set to premiere in 2020, and from what we know of the previous Cars franchise, we can expect to be taken on an epic road journey full of fun, adventure, and surprising twists with a terrific ensemble reuniting for the occasion. Let’s review all we’ve learned about the upcoming Cars film from Disney and Pixar!

You better get ready because we’re taking a road trip across the country! Plot-wise, our heroes in Radiator Springs are at Flo’s V8 Cafe when Mater drops the bombshell that his sister is getting married and he will be out of town for the next few days. McQueen comes up with the great and thrilling idea of inviting him along, so they set out on their wacky adventure. They see several landmarks along the route, such as the World’s Largest Lug Nut and a life-size dinosaur constructed entirely out of auto parts.

Viewers can join them on their race across the country, and the experience wouldn’t be the same without the chance to meet new people, and butt heads with old enemies along the way. We can expect Cars on the Road to be an exhilarating and thrilling adventure full of surprises that will keep us on the edge of our seats. McQueen and Mater are the best of friends, and their crazy and entertaining ideas are unrivaled. The rest of the plot is under wraps for now.

Even so, the teaser has been released, giving us a little more of a clue as it shows McQueen gliding through the desert and challenging Mater to a race.

In Cars 2, Owen Wilson reprises his role as Lightning McQueen, a professional race vehicle that competes in both the Piston Cup and the World Grand Prix. At the conclusion of Vehicles 3, McQueen retires after a brilliant career and becomes a mentor to a new generation of race cars. Lawrence “Larry the Cable Guy” Cable returns as Mater, a tow truck with deep roots in Radiator Springs, joining Wilson once more.

In the first Cars movie, McQueen doesn’t like Mater at first, but the two eventually become the best of friends. Sally Carrera, the town attorney and McQueen’s love interest, and the rest of the gang from the original Cars are back in Cars on the Road (Bonnie Hunt).

Cheech Marin comes back to play Ramone, the trendy lowrider who can’t decide on a color scheme. Fillmore, the hippy Volkswagen, played by Lloyd Sherr, is another recurring figure. Monster truck Ivy, voiced by ABC’s Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson, is one of the new vehicles introduced in the episode.
