Will there be a La Brea Season 3?

If you believe in fourth chances, NBC’S La Brea is the show for you. The sci-fi series, which is reminiscent of the ABC series ‘Lost’, did not have a very good start. With its implausible depiction of the aftermath of a very long fall, amateur primeval animal attacks, and awkward lines, only those with a lot of patients were able to get through La Brea’s first few episodes. La Brea, however, got a lot more interesting as the cast seemed to break into their roles, and the writers got used to writing these characters. Those that gave the show second, third and fourth chances seem to believe they made the right choice now.

La Brea is currently sucking us into its second season with more drama, visual effects, character development, and more plot twists than we saw in the previous season. Fans are already hoping the show will be renewed for a third season. Have your prayers been answered? Here is everything we know about La Brea and its potential third season.

La Brea is an American science fiction drama series created by David Appelbaum, a TV writer, and producer known for The Mentalist (2008) and NCIS: New Orleans (2014). The drama series kicks off when an enormous sinkhole opens in the middle of Los Angeles at the site of the La Brea Tar Pits and sucks in hundreds of people, cars, and buildings far and near. La Brea centers around a family, split up by the sinkhole, two (mum and son) getting sucked into a primeval land by the sinkhole and two (daughter and father) back in Los Angeles trying to find a way to reunite with their lost relatives.

Produced by Matchbox Pictures, Keshet Studios, Bad Apple, and Universal Televisions, La Brea premiered on NBC on September 28, 2021. Creator David Appelbaum executive-produced the show alongside Ken Woodruff, Avi Nir, Peter Traugott, Alon Shtruzman, Rachel Kaplan, Adam Davidson, and others. La Brea is distributed by NBCUniversal Television Distribution. The first season, which has ten hour-long episodes, aired from September 28 to November 30, 2021. La Brea Season 2 recently began airing on September 27, 2022, and four episodes have been released as of today.

La Brea Season 3 Release Date

La Brea Season 3 Release Date

As of today, La Brea has neither been canceled nor renewed for season three. The television series is currently at the beginning of its second season, and announcements concerning a third season have taken the backseat. Hopefully, La Brea will be renewed for season 3 sometime this year, before or after season 2 wraps up. If the thrilling sci-fi series is renewed for a third season, La Brea season 3 will most likely premiere in the fall of 2023, just like the two seasons before it.

As of now, we are still in the thick of La Brea season 2, which makes it hard to speculate what La Brea season 3 will be about. We will be sure to update this page with any official hint of the season 3 plot. In the meantime, here is a recap of the first 4 episodes of season 2 to keep your memory fresh for the next release.

La Brea Season 2 Recap

La Brea Season 2 Recap

In episodes 1 and 2, we see Josh and Riley in LA in 1988, trying to find their way back to 10,000 BC. They meet Franklin Marsh, a professor of Geology at Caltech, who has been studying the sinkholes and believes there is more to them. Franklin informs Josh and Riley that another sinkhole will open in four days, and will cause the world’s largest tidal wave and kill millions of people. By episode 4, Franklin asks Josh and Riley to help him convince his department head at Caltech, Dr Clark, about his suspicions concerning the sinkholes.

Dr. Clark, who already thinks Franklin is crazy, refuses to hear anything of it at first, but later, after Riley convinces Dr. Clark’s assistant, Maddie, Dr. Clark decides to hear them out. Riley and Josh tell her about how they ended up in 1988 and on mention of Silas, Dr. Clark begins to connect some dots. It turns out Dr. Clark knows Isaiah (a young version of Gavin in 1988) because Isaiah is actually her son. This means Josh is meeting his grandmother!

From episode 1, we also follow Eve and Levi’s journey back to camp in 10,000 BC. In episode 2, they are captured by a group of cave people called The Exiles. While they are held as prisoners, Eve and Levi team up with Virgil and other prisoners and plan to escape. Meanwhile, Gavin, Ella, and Izzy discover that they are not in Seattle but actually in 10,000 BC LA. They find their way to camp, where Gavin sees grandfather Silas again. Silas is being held prisoner by the Sky People.

Silas informs Gavin of Eve and Levi’s struggle as prisoners and convinces Gavin that only the two of them can rescue Eve and Levi. Gavin doesn’t trust him but eventually agrees. They set out for the Exiles’ caves. In episode 2, Silas tricks Gavin and gets him captured by the Exiles, but he leaves a map in Gavin’s pocket that could help him escape. Eve, Levi, and Gavin reunite at the beginning of episode 3. They compare the plan to use Sila’s map and the plan they already hashed out with Virgil. In the end, they go with Virgil faking a heart attack that allows the rest to run for the gates.

When the plan fails and the prisoners are recaptured, Gavin takes the blame and is thrown in a separate cave to be tortured. Here, he meets his captor, Tagamet, who speaks the language of the Tongva Gavin’s village. After taking a beating and failing to reason with Tagamet, Gavin is thrown back in with Eve and Levi. The trio falls back on the map to escape. They make it to camp, and Eve and her daughter Izzy reunite. Paara’s group also takes back their food from the Sky People, and Para breaks up with Ty.

Lucas, Veronica, and Scott steal the food back against Sam and Ty’s orders. Scott fakes an ankle injury during the mission in order to retrieve the key to Lazarus for Aldridge. Back in episode 1, Aldridge and Scott had been trying to break into the tower that housed Lazarus, a portal to the future, which also helps control time travel. Aldridge is one of the scientists who built the tower. In episode 4, Scott tells Gavin that Aldridge wants to meet him, but he has to come alone. Because it’s the only way to bring Josh and Riley back, Gavin goes with Scott to meet Aldridge.

Aldridge informs Gavin that they need some black rocks to power Lazarus. The Exiles had been using the prisoners to dig up the black rocks back in episode 2. Aldridge, Gavin, and Scott now have to steal the rocks from the Exiles. But before they embark on that mission, Paara storms in and informs them that the camp is being attacked by her group against her orders. They rush back to camp.

Paara’s group has already arrived at camp, but Lucas and Veronica had been able to alert the camp before they arrived, so Paara’s group finds them ready. Paara, Gavin, Scott, and Aldridge reach camp before a fight can occur. Unfortunately, a pack of hungry wolves attacks the camp. Aldridge is injured before they can kill the wolves. She tells them that they need to find the rocks, and use the key to Lazarus. It was the only way to get back home. She also tells Gavin that his parents are alive and that they were among the scientists who built the tower. Aldridge dies before she can tell them anything more.
