Directed by Hideyo Yamamoto, My Master Has No Tail is a Japanese manga series that is written and illustrated by TNSK. It was serialized in January 2019 in Good! Afternoon, a seinen manga magazine by Kodansha. It has been accumulated in nine tankobon volumes since last month. An anime adaptation was released in September 2022 and produced by Liden Films.
This manga features some talented voice artists for the characters of the anime that include M.A.O, Lynn, Ayumu Murase, Ikumi Hasegawa, Ayana Taketatsu, Junichi Suwabe, Hibiku Yamamura, Takuya Eguchi, and many more are there.
The anime was announced in September last year in one of the issues. Produced by Liden Films and helmed by Hideyo Yamamoto, Touko Machida was hired as the writer alongside Kei Shimobayashi, Aya Satsuki, and Yuho Togashi. The music has been composed by Tsukasa Yatoki, Atsushi Harada, and Yuki Honda. It was released on September 30, 2022. The opening theme song is Genai Yugi while the closing one is Virginia. The title of the manga has been derived from the main lead’s point of view where she elaborates on the odd nature of her mentor in the world of rakugo and her mentor is a human. She is not ready for the events of the 21st century and coming to Mameda, modern people cannot fall prey to the magic tricks of tanukis. In case Mameda wishes to adjust between humans, she has to understand the techniques of rakugo and impress the audience in different ways.
To revive the career of tanuki prankster, Mameda takes the form of a human being and enters the city of Osaka where she battles and eventually meets a lady called Bunko. Bunko knows a lot about rakugo and Mameda must convince Bunko to be accepted as an apprentice and understand everything about rakugo, eventually becoming the best non-human entertainer in Osaka. This is a different challenge and Mameda is excited to get started.
